Moving FSA Place Holders

Hi Guys,

We need to replace a sever and need to keep its Name and IP Addresses the same. However it have a number of FSA place holders which need to be put onto the new server. How would you recommend we go about doing this?

My thoughts are:-

1) Rename the old server and uninstall the FSA Agent, rename the new one to be the same as the old one, then install the FSA Agent and then copy the place holders onto the new box.

2) Rename the old server and uninstall the FSA Agent, rename the new one to be the same as the old one, then install the FSA Agent and then use the FSAUtility to recreate the place holders onto the new server.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,

Regards,

Dan

you could also try a backup and restore method:

·         Remove write access to the file servers shares for users.

Put NTbackup.exe in ExcludeExe key

·         Use NTbackup to do a backup of the data on the file server, as we have put ntbackup.exe into the excludedexes it will backup the placeholders as they are and also backup the hidden xml files that EV uses for archive pointers.

·         Restore the NTbackup to the new file server keeping folders in same place

·         Set up the sharing correctly on the new file server.

·         rename the new file server to match the old name.

·         Test retrieval of items from the new file server

·         Test an archiving run against the new file server (as the target is already set up pointing at the name now used by the server, we do not need to configure the targets)

Otherwise follow Scanners TechNote ;)
