Moving the file vault partition databases only to new SQL server

Fred_E_

We are running an EV 10.0,3 site.  We have the primary site server which manages our Exchange archiving, and we also have a secondary server in the same site that manages our file server archiving.

We are performing a two staged migration to a data center, for now, we only want to move the file archiving EV server to the data center.  In a different forum I was given a good way to get the data copied, however I did not ask about moving the file vault partition  databases.

Is it possible to leave the primary site database in our current location along with the Exchange archiving databases, and simply move the file archiving oriented databases to the data center?  Is there a script that will then update the primary site DB on the old SQL server to direct file recalls to the proper place?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this most likely not very detailed question.

It looks like this would be a temporary solution only and that eventually all EV managed data will be in the same data center once more, correct?

Is 'Share within Group' enabled on the vault store group?  If so it is not recommended to sharing across data centers.  As a temporary solution you will need to plan to the peformance impact this may cause in both archiving and retrieve rates.

See Step 5 and Step 8 for more information on moving the databases:     http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35744

Hi Fred,

You can definitely move the partitions and leave the database on the same SQL server as long as the EV server can connect to the storage. This technote explains how to move a partition or a vault store in Enterprise Vault:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35742

Once you are ready to move the databases to the data center, you need to follow this technote:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35744

Both techntoes have a video with more details about the process.

I hope this helps.
