New Items Awaiting Backup or Replication

Hello

I need some assistance with an Enterprise Vault v9 issue.

Accross 3 open vault stores we have 5.2 million savesets that have not been backed up or replicated.

We also have around 400,000 items that are awaiting indexing.

We have safety copies set to be removed immediately after archiving.

We back up once a week and these backups are going through as normal.

EV is working as normal in terms of retrieving items and restoring/storing in the vault.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi mlw1,

This technote might help you to fix this issue:

what v9 service pack are you on?

you might look into switching to a trigger file instead of the archive bit

you also should check your sql maintenance because database issues sometimes lead to what you're seeing here

I am not sure what service pack we are on.

Our backups are snapshot backups so is this the reason why the savesets are not clearing?

If we do a manual backup of EV and the SQL DB will this clear all the savesets or will it take a long time to slowly reduce them?

If you are using snapshot backups, then you need to switch to the trigger file method:

How to use a trigger file (IgnoreArchiveBitTrigger.txt or PartitionSecuredNotification.xml) for devices that do not support the Archive bit
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35610

In regards to the SQL question, verify the fragmentation levels on the EV databases:

SQL Index Fragmentation and Statistics
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168905

With 2MM items it should not take long to marked all those items as secured.

if your doing snapshots then you have to use a trigger file like i previously suggested a couple days ago

If we now implement a Trigger File and restart the Storage service this should go through and secure the savesets and those numbers will reduce?

Will this have any impact on disk space?

Also, am i right in believing that until the saveset is secured and removed the storage space isnt actually removed from Exchange?

Thanks

No impact on disk space on the EV side, but you will notice more activity in the SQL server side during the process. In addition, you are correct. Once the items are marked as secured, Enterprise Vault will remove the safety copies from the mailboxes and replace them with shortcuts.

I hope this helps.
