Outlook 2010: When will EV client with full functionality be available?

If I understand the current situation correctly the "Enterprise Vault 9.0.1 HTTP-Only Outlook Add-In" is the only add-in available for Outlook 2010 but this does not provide full functionality.  Our business customers will almost definitely be deploying thousands of instances of Outlook 2010 soon and I therefore would like to understand when an Outlook EV Add-In for Outlook 2010 that provides full functionality will be available please?  Can anyone help?

We have the same requirement for our environment (i.e. a full functional version of the 2010 EV Add-in)  however we have not been given any estimates, just that it is currently being worked on as I believe symantec and Microsoft are working together to resolve some long standing issues in order for the DCOM Functionality to work in an http only client

Hello im666,

The difference is as follows:

"For the record, DCOM client functionality consists of :

* When manually archiving an item, you get the chance to choose different options, such as the archive it goes to, rather than the “default” archive for the user

* When restoring an archived item, you can choose where the restored item should go to

* You can view the Enterprise Vault tab on the properties of a folder

So if you don’t require any of those features, roll out the Lite/HTTP client. If you are a pure Outlook 2010 environment, then, the only client is the Lite/HTTP client."

If your client requires any of the above then the dcom is required. For OL2010 this is not available (yet). Get in contact with your Programm Manager, to notify him for the need of this, and to get a possible date/timeframe of when these 3 features are incorporated in the 'lite' client.

The info is taken from this post: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/enterprise-vault-901-which-client-should-i-install

Well the thing is I think it glosses over some core functionality that is missing, so "you can't view the  EV Tab on a folder" is rather simplistic, but it feels a little dismissive consider the EV Tabs are used for setting your own archive and retention rates on individual folders

So if you give your end users the ability to create their own retention folders etc its vital, also that lack of the EV Tab means that you can't unsuspend a mailbox etc

Hi Gertjan, I am aware of what is not available against Outlook 2010. I find it disappointing and embarassing to explain to our customers that we can not deliver full EV functionality against Outlook 2010 which was released approx 10 months ago.  I am therefore hoping that one of the Symantec employees will be able to tell us via this forum when we can expect full functionality.

Cheers

agreed, i just don't think you're going to get an ETA , just that it's currently being worked on and it really boils down to issues with Outlook that Symantec will have to work with Microsoft to resolve
