Outlook Add Ins + Citrix/Terminal Server

We have an EV 8.0 SP3 server running on Windows Server 2008. Everything works fine except on Outlook (2007 SP2) clients on our Citrix servers (Windows 2003 SP2). When Outlook is loaded after logging in, no buttons will be loaded but the archived items have the correct icons. When opening one of these items a form gets installed then the add-in prompts the user to restart Outlook. When this is done the buttons appear as expected until the next time the user logs off. The add-in is always shown as enabled in the add-ins menu of Outlook.

On a local Outlook install the icons appear every time as expected.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Out of curiosity, is Outlook running in Cached Mode?  If yes, can you try opening Outlook and then closing and re-opening without clicking anything?

does that happen everytime the user logs on to citrix? or just new users?
any chance that when that happens you could get a copy of the EV_Client_log*.* from the local users temp directory/
also is there anything in the event logs about the msi installing in \Application at all?

It happens every time they log on whether it's an existing user or not. I will check the EV_Client.log and report back.

huh , thats weird, so each time you start outlook its re-registering the client silently (per the policy) how did you install the client?

It was installed manually in install mode on the terminal servers. I have tried reinstalling the client without success.

I did wonder if it was one of our group policies causing the problem but I would expect it to happen every time Outlook is launched if that were the case.

hmm do you have any other plugins in outlook?
wondering if we could install another one as a test to see if its all plugins with outlook or just EV

We have some other plugins running (CRM and an Antivirus one) and they both seem to work OK.

Outlook is not running in cached mode.

Try the MS KB302003

Forms with VBScript do not work with Terminal Services in Outlook
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302003

More details about Outlook on Terminal Services and Citrix can be found in the white paper "Enterprise Vault 8.0 Security Model for Microsoft Exchange Archiving"
http://www.symantec.com/connect/sites/default/files/Enterprise%20Vault%208.0%20Security%20Model%20-%...

Good luck.

In finding out what's causing this, just in case we run into.  We would like to use the Add-In for Citrix but are looking for a way to disable the VV/VC for these sessions.

Hey,

we did run into similiar problems with the EV Addin on a Terminalserver farm. For us the icons randomly dis- and reappeared when Outlook was started. Keep in mind, that EV isnt supported on Terminalserver.

What did mircales for us was deleting the Users profil from the server erverytime they log off. After doing so, we dont had any reported problems with the icons.
