Outside User can't hit EV site with Internet Explorer

Weird issue I'm having and I hope someone can help.

I have a remote user that's just been enabled for EV, but for some reason Internet Explorer 8 can't hit the remote Enterprise Vault website that we have published for users at http://servername.domainname.com/EnterpriseVault

He gets an error about unable to connect and asking to diagnose the problem. He can get to the default home page that says under construction at http://servername.domainname.com and can hit the EV site from Firefox, but not from IE. As a result, his Outlook functionality with the client is not working either.

Any thoughts? I've tried uninstalling and re-installing IE 8, tried it with IE 7, no luck. Thanks in advance!

doesn't sound like an IE problem to me, more like an ISA or equivalent issue not having the virtual directory published properly
check your firewall settings and logs that is infront of the EV server and you should have some more insight as to why you can't connect

What is the exact error message you get?
Can you disable "friendly error message" in IE and try again?
