P2v for FSA targeted file server

Vikes_2

Hello,

We are looking at doing a P2V on one of our targeted file servers that is using placeholders, I have not been able to find much of any info on this in regards to issues or suggestions or if it is supportat at all and wanted to see if anyone out here has done this? Any issues with the placeholders? We are running EV 8.0sp5.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Travis

I guess that as long as the server has an ip address and can be resolved by DNS then it can host the placeholders. Obviously the host OS needs to be a supported one as per the compatability guide which  should tell also you what virtual servers are supported for your version of EV.

You can use the FSAUtility to move the placeholders from the physical to the virtual.

Also here is a V10 guide that details how to install EV in VMWare.

Hi Percy,

Thanks for replying. I know that FSA and placeholders work on a VM, thankfully I have tested that part before but I have never tested a file server that already had placeholders and P2V. So that is my concern now, whether or not the P2V messes up the current placeholders. The server should still have the same name and IP but will be virtual.

Thanks,

Travis
