PST Migration with EV 8.0

I am new to EV 8.0 and we have not done any PST migration yet. We are wondering when a PST is migrated where does the emails from the PST now reside? I know they show up under the users mailbox, but is it now part of the Exchange DB? It would seem that Exchange could grow very large during the migration process if this is true? Thanks in advance for you help.

It was written for EV 2007 but the principles still apply for EV 8.

Hi This depends on your settings. You can have it migrated into Exchange, but that's probably not used very often. Best practice is to have it migrate directly into the archive, and have only shortcuts created in the mailbox. There are some PST Migration guides which you definitely should check out: http://www.enterprisevaultfaq.com/wiki/EV_Documents_(Index) Cheers Michel

Thank you! This answers many of our questions, but I do have another question. What if a user has a PST that they only refer to once a year and they do not want this shown under their mailbox list all the time, can you migrate a PST in and not have it visable to the user, but somehow have it searchable?

Of course. Just don't create shortcuts, then it will be migrated into the archive, and you can search it using the "google" like, builtin search capabilities of Enterprise Vault. Cheers Michel
