Problem opening archived mail from 2nd mbx

Hello all,

We have mailboxes that several users have access to. Access is being set using AD, using Mailbox Rights and Security of the ' shared'  mailbox.
In EV, I see the archive for this mailbox, and the permissions on the archive are like the rights in AD on that mailbox.

Users have an Outlook profile where there personal mailbox is set as first, the additional mailbox set as 2nd.

I have some users reporting not being able to open an archived mail. The dvs is available.
The error (from the clienttrace) is
CDownloadSTA::DoDownload: 0x80004005
And further down
CShortcutItem::Display...Return Last Failed Error: 0x80004005

The message in Outlook is: EV is currently not available, try again later.
One user reports he sees in the pop-up when trying to retrieve the item : Your password might be required

I added myself to the 2nd mailbox, added to my profile (as the 2nd mbx), and  retrieving an item, using AE and Search Safes works like a charm.
When I asked the user to create a new profile, having the 2nd mailbox as first, and his own as 2nd, it works fine. This indicates to me it is NOT a permission problem. (as he then has access to the archived items)

Older posts refer to mapi-problems and/or profile problems. Is there anything else I can try to determine the exact problem? EV-ResetClient?

Thanks.
Regards. Gertjan

I have granted myself permissions to the specified 2nd mailbox. for me, retrieving, AE and search safe works without issues.
We had some issues with connectivity to the 2nd line storage. That might have caused the problem.

For me it works.

Issue closed ;)

Can you post a full client trace, and do you have the option for "Allow Scripts in Shared folders" turned on?

Full trace coming.

I asked user to go to vaultserver.domain.com/enterprisevault/search.asp, that works.

cut and paste does not work. Attaching.
I edited some entries (username/useraccount/domainname/ev-servers listed etc.)

Hello Gertjan,

I have seen this issue ... happens if you do not have enough priviliges to any archive and authenticate with a second one (let me say evservice Account) then I get similar results on any element .

I think the problem is the second authentication ...

Hello Symphony,

I know the problem is authentication, but I need to be able tyo resolve this. I have tested (as stated) using my own account, and having the correct permissions. IT works for me, it does not work for another. I will doublecheck the 'allow scripts to run etc' setting, but this has been set in one of the policies (desktop I believe).

I need to understand why one person cannot open archived mail from a 2nd mailbox, whereas I can. Same setup, same environment, same rights.

Ok, so it works fine from AE and Search.asp but not via Outlook.  Are there any event in the app log on the EV server?

I had the same error this afternoon. I am sure it worked before. Apparently, the server where the 2nd archive is on, was running a mailbox-sync. As soon as that finished, I could access archived mails again. wtf.? Will do more research tomorrow.

Maybe you were just a fraction unlucky, and Outlook played games with you?  You see when you do a mailbox synch, what happens under the covers is that the hidden message, with your policy settings in it is first of all deleted, then a new one created.

So there is a tiny window of opportunity where there is no hidden message.

However..  the permissions part shouldn't be affected by this... as that is just a database update and only if the permissions have changed since the last synch.

This morning, I could open archived messages again. Weird.

I'll do some tracing, see what happens there.....
Did you (Rob) have a chance to look at the logfile?

Thx.

It's just a generic "failure" type of entry in the client trace, unfortunately :

It would perhaps be necessary to get some server trace (W3WP, and Retrieval Task spring to mind)
