Question Regarding Vault Store Partition Permissions

We are creating Vault Store Partitions. (On a Netapp Filer)

After creating the partition, I browse to the physical path and check permissions. "Everyone" has full rights.

It's my understanding that only the VSA should have Full Permisions to the physical partition path. I ask because this has caused issues in clearing the watchfile table for these partitions.

This is EV 9.03

Thanks for any guidance.

how are you attaching to the partitions?

They simply create a folder on the Filer and then reference that when creating the Vault Store Parition.

1) Create Physical Folder

2) Create Vault Store Parition (as a File Share)

From my understanding the permissions are controlled by the NetApp filer itself, I would check the NetApp filer permissions side of things.

What kind of issues are you getting? Might want to trace the problem.

I'm just wondering why it doesn't assign permissions to the VSA when the Partition is created in EV

Like I said, it's really down to the NetApp filer permissions settings, EV doesn't have control over this part. It is the same when you assign permissions on the SAN when it is being used for Vault Store partitions. EV does not play or alter with NTFS permissions.

Check this part of the Install and Config guid:

Setting the permissions on a NetApp Filer

Before configuring a NetApp Filer for archiving, you must give the Vault Service

account administrative permissions on the file server.

To set the permissions on a NetApp Filer

1 Add the Vault Service account as an Administrator on the NetApp filer by

following these steps in the order listed:

Log on to a Windows server as a user who already has administrative

rights on the NetApp filer.

On the Windows desktop, right-click MyComputer and then, on the

shortcut menu, click Manage.

In Computer Management, select Connectto anothercomputer from the

Action menu and then enter the name of the NetApp filer.

2 Expand Local Users and Groups and click Groups.

3 In the right pane, right-click Administrators and then, on the shortcut menu,

click Add to Group.

4 Click Add to add the Vault Service account to the list of group members.

Although this part is geing perperaed for EV FSA file server target. You might to check with Tech Support to see if NetApp being used as Vault Store partitions is officially supported.

are you sure this is not just for Netapp Filers that you want to setup to BE archived?

do you know if your partitions are SAN attached or CIFS?

Yes, that's perparing for a file server to be targeted and be archived. That's the only reference to NetApp filer in the install and config guide. In the install and config guide do a search for NetApp and you should find that section.

I don't think I have come across people setting NetApp filer as Vault Store partition, perhaps it is not supported hence I said about asking support for the official supportability of NetApp filer as a storage for EV vault store partition.

People use Filers for archives all of the time.

Does anyone have any insite as to why the VSA is not being added to the permisions list for the Vault Store Partition Folder... and why is "Everyone" being added?

Thanks!!

Coincidentally, I've being pondering this as well, as I'm looking to relocate EV partitions from a 32bit aggregate to a 64bit aggregate.

I've setup the new share with only the VSA account having share and security permissions.

Will see in due course whether this is correct.
