Question on Storage Expiry and retention periods

Hello all.

I have a question concerning how Storage Expiry (modified date) and retention dates work together.

I have emails from 10 yrs ago, we installed KVS 1 yr ago and I have a retention period of 3 yrs.  So if the Storage Expiry was running properly it would clip all messages older than 3 year, right?  OR  does it depend on when the messages were actually vaulted, so even though the messages might be 10 yrs old, and the Storage Expiry and Retention period says to delete anything older than 3 yrs; the messages will get deleted in 2 yrs (because of the 1 yr already in the vault)?

I hope that's articulated well enough, it's late in the day ;)

Thanks.
PM.

Hey all, I have a serious issue I'm trying to work through and I'd love to get some of your advice or input.

I just got off the phone with support and they are saying that if I have 10 yrs of messages, install the vault today and vault all messges.  Tomorrow when the 3 yr retention policy runs, nothing will get deleted until 3 years from the vault date.  EVEN THOUGH I have "Modified Date" set on the Storage Expiry.   Doesn't make sense because that's exactly what "Archive Date" does.

Their logic is based off of my DVS messages.  Here is an excerpt.

DVS File: c:\595000000000000~199908041907050000~0.DVS  (7155 bytes)

Notice the PR_Creation_Time: and the PR_Last_Modifications_Time: are the same which happens to be the date and time the message was vaulted.

The PR_Client_Submit_Time is the actual time stamp on the message.

Support was saying that the Storage Expiry's Modified Date goes off of the Last_Modification_Time.  This doesn't make sense to me that it should be the same as the Creation_Time or date it was vaulted.

Can anyone else tell me if support is correct or if you know that your messages older than your retention policy are being deleted properly.  I've run the report and it says nothing needs to be expired but according to this info support gave me, I see why.  But I have vaulted messages from the late 90s that I need to purge and want to use KVS to do this (this is why we bought it in the first place)!

Sorry if I'm ranting, I'm confused and frustrated.

Thank you for any help or insight you can give me!
Phil.

Thanks Tony!  I really hope it's just confusion.  I'm sure I'm not articulating well but maybe I'm not being asked the proper questions.

Thanks again !
Phil.
