I have a user who is trying to remove tasks from his task pane on Outlook 2007. Most of the emails associated to the tasks are archived. Unfortunately, the only way (that we know of) to remove the tasks from the task pane is to delete the email associated with the task.
Does anyone know of another way to go about this where we can remove the task without deleting the email?
Let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks,

If you have any sales contacts or account management contacts at symantec, tell them about the Idea and your requirements, because it really does need to be actioned in all honesty

is it just archived email that does this or is it normal email as well?
Are the tasks complete? because you can set the view to just hide complete tasks
(In the Tasks Pane, under Current View on the left, click "Active Tasks")
Another thing you could do is rather than deleting the shortcut, just to just clear the flag on that particular piece of email or worst comes to worst restore the email in Outlook and then clear the flag and re-archive, but to be honest there shouldnt be anything stopping the shortcut that holds the flag being modified
That being said, if you use Virtual Vault and Vault Cache, those items WILL take across the flags and will remain that way and cannot be modified

You've hit the nail on the head there. We use both Virtual Vault and Vault Cache (naturally).
So using these technologies... there's nothing we can do about it?
