Folks,
Have a few users which have multiple folder with simlar names (Archive Folder 2009 1, Archive Folder 2009 2, etc....). These folder are all empty.
I have found the following solution below but this seems to be for an older version of EV as i dont have the same registry path.
Does anyone know of another way of removing the empty folders
thanks
Paul

To delete the empty folders:
1. Open registry editor on the Storage Service computer.
2. Create a new DWORD entry called DeleteEmptyFolders under the following key:

same limitations as a regular delete, any item that did exist in there that might be in the JournalUpdate/Delete tables need to be cleared first, so if you have dumpster for 14 days, and then history for 32 days, you have to wait for 46 days for those items to clear (just over 6 weeks)
Then after that you can delete the folder, unless the folder also exists in the actual mailbox, in which case you have to delete the folder from outlook, then synch your vault cache, then delete the folder and all that guff.
Its not pretty but its one option. If AE doesn't work for you, open a case with support.
Get a dtrace of storage to make sure that its actually even reading the registry key and attempting to delete it, i know back in 2007 and 8 there were some major issues, not with deadlocking but just that the query was so expensive it needed a new index (which is most likely what the 9 sp3 fix is)

As far as I know there isn't any other way other than the registry key unfortunately. The pain is you have to wait for at least 32 days :-(. In a lab environment if you have one try to cheat and change the system date to get around the 32 days :-).
A while back (couple of years ago) I found that if you are using 64bit it did not work properly, but that was in a lab environment and it may have resolved now.

you can use virtual vault as well fwiw, and as Amol pointed out, you should use the WOW6432Node

I'll be interested to know what Tech Support responses will be for the WOW6432Node as I never got it to work. I did report it internally but whether it got looked at is a different story!!!! It was when Windows 2008 R2 started to arise with Enterprise Vault.

It could be related to an issue fixed in 9 sp3
When DeleteEmptyFolders is set to a value other than 0, the Storage service removes empty folders from the archives it owns. In some circumstances, this produced SQL deadlocks and the removal of folders could be very slow or fail completely.

I never got the process to work either but I like JW's idea of doing it from Virtual Vault.
JW - Since I haven't played with this yet, if you delete the folder from VV will it be gone from the Archive Explorer view as well?
