Searching Files on EV.

Hello,

I've been setting up a trial of Symantec Enterprise Vault on the 30 day license. At present I'm only looking at fileserver archiving. I've got it archiving a test file server on our Windows 2008 domain.

It has archived correctly, I think, and produced placeholders, which is all fine.

However I note there is a search function with shopping basket etc. Is this aimed at Email only, or can it be used with the file archives? Is it only used when placeholders are not created? I've read through a lot of the documentation but it's not clear on this.

Also, from the documentation, it looks like I should be able purchase a server with the recommended specs and run the application on the same server as the storage. would that be reasonable setup? I'm keen to get an idea of how it works in other setups before I submit the proposal.

You can use search to go against file system archiving as well as share point, journal, shared mailboxes etc but I wouldn't really recommend it, it's a bit cumbersome to be honest The shopping basket however I would not recommend as that is meant for mailbox archiving For scenarios where placeholders are no longer present I would use Archive Explorer by going to http://evserver/EnterpriseVault/ArchiveExplorerUI.asp And as far as specs go, the WebApps are always installed on each EV server and have little to no overhead
