Shift - Delete (cut) does not work when EV client is installed

Marcel_2
Level 3
We have customers who use Shift-delete to cut and Shift-insert to paste when editing
With EV 8 SP3 client installed, Shift- delete will now Hard delete the editing text which is upsetting for some.
Is there any fixes to change the behaviour back to normal ( or back to what it was before EV client was installed)

Since it's fixed in Outlook 2007 a fix for Outlook 2003 is doubtful:
I have reviewed this case with our backline engineers. This was a reported issue when using Outlook 2003. Currently there is no fix to this issue nor is there an update or hotfix planned to address this issue. The issue has been resolved in Outlook 2007 and beyond. I would recommend upgrading your client machines to Outlook 2007 if you desire this funtionality. There is no official documentation as there are many workarounds that address this issue; including but not limited to CTRL+X and CTRL+C then CTRL+V to paste, etc

Thanks all for your assistance anyway!

You're going to have to create a case with EV support and this listed as a bug, but unfortunately it will be treated as extremely low priority
(fwiw i see the same behavior on mine too)

I belive there was a hotfix in Ev 7 for this issue not sure about 8.0 sp3
as workaround you can instruct the users to use Control X to cut and Control C to copy within email messages

Here is the link for the hotfix http://support.veritas.com/docs/288333 but it is for ev 7 .0 client

RahulG, I think Marcel is referring to text within a message, not shift-deleting a message itself...

Marcel, I don't see the same behaviour that you describe.

If I open a new mail message, and type some text, then highlight a bit of it, and press shift-del, navigate to somewhere else, and do shift-ins, it works.

Are you doing something different?

Rob,  Using the same techniquie as you have discribed and editing within Outlook 2003 SP3, I have found Shift-del will not cut the text for editing, But further testing has found that this editing method does work in Outlook 2007!
Unfortunatly we are not ready to roll out Office 2007 etc for some time.

We know of the workaround of Control X, C & V but I am told years of editing methods are hard to change when you automaticly select keys for certain functions.

It works correctly for me with Outlook 2003 SP 3.

Are you talking about opening an archived item, or just a normal regular mail, or a brand new email?

When editing a new email or modifying a old one when forwarding, Shift-del will not cut.
This is the same for all workstations in our corp.
I believe "JesusWept2" reported he had the same behaviour.

hmm maybe it's Operating System specific.  I have Outlook 2007 SP 2 installed on Windows 2008 Enterprise, and it works no problem.

What Operating Systems are we seeing this on?

Hello, did anyone find a solution for this?
We just got EV (8.0.4.1991.0.dcom) and are running Outlook 2003 (11.8325.8324) SP3

I see that shift-del is still a supported shortcut in Outlook 2008, so I'm hoping there is a fix - it will be a long time before I wean off this command (only been using it for, oh, almost 30 years...)

We really need more details on exactly what it is you are doing .. and / or raise a case with Support.  Like I said, I can't repro the problem -- and if I can't then there isn't anyone that is going to fix it.

so three users have the issue but you don't, so we're the problem?

I didn't say that Alex.

What I said is that I've followed the steps, and don't have a problem - therefore something is missing from the steps, or some environmental differences, or some other subtle difference.
I can't even begin to look in to it, or fix it, if I can't reproduce it.

I have Windows XP SP3, Outlook 2007 (12.0.6535.5005) SP2 and EV8.0 SP4 (8.0.4.2002.0.dcom) and Shift + Del / Shift + Ins works for me on new messages...

Actually i tell you what is really weird
if i do the following

(Windows XP SP3 + Outlook 2007 SP2 + EV 8 SP4 hotfix client)

1. Create a new mail message
2. Type in some stuff on the first lane
3. at the end of the line do Shift-Home then Shift-Delete
4. Shift-Insert - no line appears
5. BUT if you press enter to a new line and shift-insert, the item magically pastes?

freakin weird!

I don't have that behaviour JW2, but I have a signature, so technically I'm not starting from a totally blank email.

Rob, how would I open a case with support?

Also (re: batman) the guys here have tried Outlook 2007 and it does not have the same behaviour.

The problem is we're ready to roll out EV, but not Outlook 2007 yet...

Thanks all!
