Shortcut deletion

Hi,

Can someone clarify exactly what the 'age' is which EV uses to determine when to delete a shortcut based upon the policy? Is is the age of the email/item/etc.. or the age of the shortcut? I.e. if you wanted to archive (and shortcut) after 6 months, and then delete shortcuts 6 months later (a year after the mail was received), what value should you pick in the shortcut deletion policy? Or it linked to the base expiry setting?

Many thanks

Refer the following document  http://support.veritas.com/docs/329716

http://support.veritas.com/docs/273286
 Which states the following

Shortcuts contain two important dates:

  • The Sent Date of an archived item, which determines how old the item is
  • The Archived Date of each item

Shortcut Deletion can be configured  to use either of these dates as a basis to determine the age of the item, and when it should be removed from the mailbox. Set this option using the Enterprise Vault (EV) Administration Console on the Storage Expiry page of Site Properties
Modified date
When Expiry is set to modified date, a shortcuts age is determined from the date that the original email item was received.

Archived date
When Expiry is set to archived date, a shortcuts age is determined from the day that the email item was archived.

Hope the above information answers your query

Thanks for the reply.

Out of interest in terms of general expiry. Is there any way to make attachments have the same expiry as their parent email? At the moment from looking at our expiry, attachments are being expired based upon when they themselves were created (which in some cases can be quite a long time before the email was sent).

I realise I could configure it to expire on archive date, but I think the general recommendation is not to do this?
