Dear Experts,

We are running 9.0.3 and soon upgrade to 9.0.4. The archiving is happening for both Exchange and file server. Please help me in getting following answers.

1. Can we have EV mail box retention at mail box level in EV

2.If we expire the EV retention what happened to the mail item which has been archived. is it deleted from the mail box or still remain there.

3.  is there a command line utility available for EV mail box export/restore (for batch sechduling purpose)

4. If we export/restore the EV mail box items as PST file. what happened to existing EV place holder items at mail box level.( hope it will be there remain same)

Regards,

1) Yes you can have a separate mailbox retention category for mailbox & file system arching

2) If you expire items, yes it will get delete from the archive. The archived content is in the archive not in the mailbox hence "archive"

3) Yes, EVPM please refer to the Admin Guide

4) If you Export the data, the shortcut will remain in the archive. (it’s called a shortcut not place holder)

The first question meant that is it possible to have different retention for indivisual mailboxes? I was not able to find this option in the GUI.

What is the difference between placeholder and shortcut

Yes you can have different policies, targeting different mailboxes. Look at provisioning groups ;)

Shortcut - gets created in a mailbox or public folder once an item is archived pointing to the original

Placeholder - gets created on fileserver pointing to the archived item
