Support for Exchange 2013 CU1....CU2

We are planning on a exchange 2013 upgrade in the very near future.  I just read the above which states cu1 is not supported (as of 7/3/2013) in a mixed environment.  We will need to run 2007 and 2013 for approx one to two weeks before removing 2007.  Does the above mean we can no longer upgrade to 2013 until EV supports CU1?  CU2 was just released....  The compatbility charts never mentioned cu1 as a seperate exchange version until last week.

Please advice - are we stopped dead in our tracks as far as the exchange 2013 upgrade is concerned.  Was it only last week that they announced no support for mixed environments running exchange 2013 cu1?

Based on that technote and the compatibility charts, it would seem that your environment would not be supported, your best bet is to talk to your sales rep or RPM if you have access to them and see what the roadmap is like to have that environment supported

This is the blog entry referred to above:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/enterprise-vault-support-exchange-server-2013-cu1

Due to lots of questions recently I wanted to clarify Enterprise Vault support for Exchange Server 2013 CU1:

  • Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 or later supports Exchange Server 2013 CU1 in native mode only. This means that only Exchange Server 2013 servers exist in the Exchange organisation.
  • Enterprise Vault 10.0.3 or later does not yet support Exchange Server 2013 CU1 in a mixed mode environment. This means that Exchange 2007 or 2010 servers also exist in the Exchange organisation.

We are working on mixed mode support for CU1 however there are some technical challenges which we are working through with Microsoft. We anticipate being able to support CU1 in mixed mode in the coming weeks and this blog will be updated once more is known around these timescales.

It is worth noting that with Exchange 2013 CU2 currently in TAP we do not anticipate future Exchange CU’s requiring this kind of effort to support however as with every Exchange release our extensive testing regime ensures we catch these issues early rather than in customers production environments. CU1 is unique in that it has modified how partner solutions, such as Enterprise Vault, must connect to end-users mailboxes and this is what we are working through with Microsoft.

Once again, we’ll post back here once we have firm timescales for CU1 in mixed mode support. In the meantime feel free to reach out to me either privately or on the comments section of this blog with questions/concerns.

Am I correct in saying that they only acknowledged cu1 as a seperate version from ex2013 last week?

My assumption based on charts and technotes was ex2013 cu1 was supported .... up until last week.

Do we have any options ....  uninstall cu1?

I don't know I'd have to see older Compatibility Charts to see if they mentioned it If they did support it, they may have pulled support or put those conditions on based either on internal testing or other customers calling in issues etc Again your best bet is to contact your Symantec reps for more details

Hi,

Exchange 2013 CU1 in mixed mode is supported with the latest hotfix for 10.0.4:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH209191

What issue(s) does this hotfix resolve?
In addition to the support of Microsoft Exchange 2013 native mode already available in the Symantec Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 release, this hotfix extends support to customers wishing to install Microsoft Exchange 2013 cumulative update releases in either upgraded native mode or mixed mode when co-existing with Microsoft Exchange 2007 or Microsoft Exchange 2010 servers.

I hope this helps.

Hi All,

Based on all previous information provided, it was never mentioned that the mixed mode will not work. We just completed upgrading all our EV 10.0.1 servers to EV 10.0.3 only to find out that now we need to do another SP upgrade of our 12+ EV servers. When releasing SP3 was Symantec hoping that a lot of businesses are deploying new Exchange environments? I would think that most businesses are running in mixed mode and that should be the focus.  This should be communicated clearly "Mixed mode will not work - we have no solution and you should wait" (instead of saying that E2013 is supported - which was an outright lie!).

On top of that, the documentation provided is horrid.  No test plans with Exchange 2013 co-existence are included (we have to come up with our own scenarios to confirm the upgrade was successful),

Way to drop the ball Symantec!

Hi RG009,

We had the same trouble and found a solution in installing 10.0.4. with HF 1. After this the connection are working in mixed mode.

Try out.
