Symantec Enterprise Vault Journal index failure for Exchange 2007

Dears

My Exchnage version is 2007 and Enterprise Vault is 2007 version v7.5

I am using it only for Exchange mail archiving. I contacted Symantec support with my support ID buthey told this product obsolete and no more support from Symantec.

Now some of the users index is getting corrupted, most important is the journal mailbox. Previously, I used to update or rebuild the index successfully.

Now its seems some issue with updating\rebuilding index. Journal is giving me the failed after some 3-4 hours and another users Rebulding is going for the past 4 days still it didnt complete.

Please if anyone can help me to resolve it.

Also please let me know the procedure to upgrade the current version 7.5 to the latest one.

Sabir,

There is always a risk when you upgrade Enterprise Vault with a failed index. In the worst scenario, you might need to rebuild the entire index after upgrading to Enterprise Vault 8. If you really want to troubleshoot the index issue before upgrading, then you can collect a dtrace for indexserver and indexbroker while updating or rebuilding the index. The dtrace could tell you if there is an issue with the indexing process itself or with the data in the storage.

Also, you can upgrade EV 2007 7.5 to 8.0.5 directly:

Supported upgrade paths for Enterprise Vault (EV), Compliance Accelerator (CA), Discovery Accelerator (DA) and Discovery Collector (DC)

I hope this helps.

Hi,

You can refer Upgrade Path article. As per upgrade path you need to Upgrade Enterprise Vault Server from EV 2007 to EV 8 then from EV 8 to EV9 and then from EV 9 to EV 10.

Supported upgrade paths for Enterprise Vault (EV), Compliance Accelerator (CA), Discovery Accelerator (DA) and Discovery Collector (DC).

You can share Event ID which gives error about index issue.

Hello Sabir,

Enterprise Vault 7.5 EOSL was on 2013-12-14:

You definitely need to upgrade your Enterprise Vault server at least to 8.0.5, where '' is  2015-12-29

Here is the documentation to upgrade to Enterprise Vault 8.0.5

Thanks Ajay , Gabe. I will start the upgrade process.

Is it a risk to upgrade when there is any index failure. Currently the journal indexing screwed and data will be around 550 GB .. So Index file wil be approximately 20 GB.

I cannot do an indexing as it is failing always and support from Symantec is not there due to version 7.5 .

Also my version is 2007 version 7.5 ... is it possible to do a direct upgrade to 8.0 OR do I need to complete other service packs...
