Sync Issues Conflicts Folder

Hi All ,

I have noticed many users having the Sync Issues> Conflicts folder under Virtual Vault. Does any one know what is the purpose and what are the emails that are in their. I mean are they in there as theycould not be synchronized with the EV server? I would just like to understand why does an email landup in the conflict folder.

Thanks
Amit

If you go in to outlook and and at the very bottom of the left hand side (under Mail / Calendar / Contacts / Tasks) there is a yellow folder icon called "Folder List"
if you click that, you will now see the Sync Issues folder appear, which contains Conflicts, Local Failures and Server Failures.

You can read more about it here:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP010400421033.aspx

If you don't want it showing up, you will have to run an EVPM script with DoNotArchive against it

And as everyone has said, if EV archives that folder, then it will show up in Virtual Vault/Vault Cache/Archive Explorer

Hi,

Thanks for the response Rahul, But the question was what is the purpose of the folder Sync Issue > Conflicts, does it hold emails which could not be synced because of some sync failure?

Thanks

The folder is not created by Virtual Vault .

Sync Issues   Contains all of the synchronization logs. In Microsoft Outlook 2002 and earlier, these logs were stored in the Deleted Items folder. This folder is helpful if Outlook is having trouble synchronizing — for example, there is an item that you see in Outlook Web Access but not in Outlook — or you are not getting new mail in some folders when using Cached Exchange Mode.

Conflicts   Contains all the multiple copies of conflicting items in your mailbox

I see that folder under Virtual Vault. So am not sure what is the purpose of it.

Do you have the same folder in your outlook "
As it would be that the "Syn issue" folder is archvie by Ev from your outlook and so it has the same folder structure in the your virtual vault .....
But as I said Enterprise vault does not create that folder ...

Hi,

as others have said, this is simply the folder from your Exchange mailbox that is being represented in the Archive, the same as the inbox and other folders you have.

If there are items appearing in the folder in Virtual Vault then this means that there was a conflict when saving the item on the Exchange server and so a copy of the item was moved into the "Sync Issues" folder in your online mailbox. When the items became eligible for archiving they were archived, so now a folder called "Sync Issues" exists in the Archive. As it's in the Archive it will appear in Virtual Vault.

As for why you had items in that folder, there may be any number of reasons but usually it's because the version in your Outlook Cache/OST file was different to the version in the online mailbox and when the Outlook synchronised with the Exchange Server it wasn't possible to decide which version of the item was the valid copy

This would have been completely independent of Enterprise Vault; we are simply showing archived items and where they were archived from

I recommend using Exchange Mailbox Manager Policies to automatically delete the contents of the Sync Issues-Conflicts folder after X days.  Thats what I use to ensure that they are never archived (and never in VV as well)
