I have just been through a very interesting issue with Enterprise Vault and the Backup Exec Agent.
I posting here just give others a heads up about where there may be an issue.
We had been backing up Enterprise Vault 7.5 with BackupExec Agent 12.5.
About 15 months ago we upgraded to Enterprise Vault v8.0. The Backup Exec Agent continued to work.
Two weeks ago we upgraded BackupExec to 2010 and all Backup Jobs started to fail with the following error:
"Final error: 0xe000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.
Make sure that the correct version of the Remote Agent is installed and running on the target computer. If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.

We worked this issue with support and found the following.
This relats to the fingerprint database, we currently have not configured the fingerprint database. The has highlighted another issue that BackupExec v12.5 does not fully backup Enterpise Vault v8.0, it does not know about the fingerprint database. It should be backuped in a separate job. (The wsas not documentated, although this may be addressed now).
