When enabling users for archival, it is possible to configure a email to be sent to the user regarding the archival status change. If the Enterprise Vault Service Account (VSA) does not have "Send on Behalf" permission to the system mailbox associated with the Exchange Mailbox Archiving task for the Exchange server where the user mailbox is stored on, this email will not be able to be sent.

Details

To confirm that the VSA has the ability to "Send on Behalf" permissions, perform the following:

1. Log on to the Enterprise Vault server as the VSA.
2. Create a new Outlook profile for the system mailbox specified in the Exchange Mailbox Archiving task for the Exchange server in question.
3. While logged on as VSA within the Outlook system mailbox profile, attempt to send a message.
4. If sending a message fails, the VSA does not have the permissions needed to send the message.

Resolution:

a.  Locate the Account associated with the System mailbox for the Task in Active Directory Users and Computers.
b.  Right-click the account and select Properties.
c.  Click the Delivery Options tab and select Add under "Send on behalf"
d.  Add the VSA
e.  Send the email again in Outlook, no error should be returned.
f.  Enable or Disable a mailbox in Enterprise Vault to receive the Notification email.

Note: Depending on the complexity of the Active Directory environment, changes made to the account may take hours to Replicate through the Active Directory Structure.
