Upgrade EV 9.0.3 to EV 10.0.1

Hi,

We are planning to upgrade EV 9.0.3 to EV 10.0.1

We are already having Symantec Enterprise Vault 9.0.3 installed at Windows Server 2008 SP2 Datacenter Edition x64 bit (Not R2) and SQL Server 2008 x64 bit installed at separate machine

Kindly suggest, what steps I need to follow

Is there any guide for same?

Whilst looking at the Charts, and I'd also suggest you review the SQL Server (service pack) compatibility too.

Once you're on 9.0.3 on a 2008 R2 server, the steps are in the documentation but broad brush I would suggest:

* Run Deployment Scanner from 10.0.1, and determine if any issues need resolving.

* Stop EV Services.

* Backup SQL Databases (all)

* Run setup

* Start Services

* Test thoroughly

In order to get on to 2008 R2, again, the detail varies but broad brush either:

a/ Use the 'Server Settings Migration Wizard' (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO42445)

b/ Use manual steps

EV10 is compatible only with Win 2008 R2 and above.

So before upgrading you need to migrate EV to a R2 box

Refer to EV compatibility chart http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH38537

Refer to below article for migrating EV to R2 box

well if you're going to do the migration from one server to the other, you might as well have old server running EV9 SP2, the new server running EV10 SP1 and then run the migration wizard on the old, copy across the migration package and then run the migration wizard on the new, then start the services and it will complete the upgrade.

no point migrating 9 SP2 to 9 SP2 then go through the install of 10 sp1 etc

.. It depends how much of a 'big bang' approach you want to go through, I guess.

Totally agree with JW3 and AZC, use the Server Settings Migration Wizard, it is well worth the time it will save you from having to do a data-only DR and then upgrade.
