Users mailbox no longer archiving

We've been running live here for a few weeks now (EV 8.01) with no major problems. I've been adding users one or two at a time every few days and it seemed to be working okay till the last user. This user has about 112,000 messages of which three quarters should be falling into the archive policy (the default older than 6 months) but on the first run about a week ago it archived 320 messages and has'nt moved since. All the other mailboxes continue to be proccess messages but this one seems to be stuck ?

This turned out to be the issue:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Enterprise Vault
Event Category: Archive Task
Event ID: 3288
Date: 5/27/2009
Time: 12:24:52 PM
User: N/A
Computer: XXXX
Description:
A problem has occurred while archiving a message.
The archived item was not found or is no longer archive pending.

Task: Exchange Mailbox Archiving Task for XXXX
Message Title: March Board Packet
Users mailbox dn: /o=XXX/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=police
Internal reference: CArchivingAgent::MakeItemPendingAndProcessMsg [0x8004010F]

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://evevent.symantec.com/rosetta/showevent.asp

The Task would hang then time out on this one email. We removed the message from the users mailbox and everything processed as expected.

Check the latest Provisioning Task report in C:\program files\enterprise vault\reports\provisioning task\

Check for any indications that there was an issue with this particular mailbox in the last run.

You can also do a Run in Report Mode against that mailbox, check the report to verify how much should be archived and check event log for any errors when running against this mailbox.

Yes, Report Mode should give a good indication on what's going on with the User.

Additionally, are there any Eventlog entries?
How full are your message queues?

1. Here is a summary from Report mode on the mailbox :

     Mailbox State = Enabled
Number of Archivable Items = 98814
Total Size of Archivable Items = 11964380
Size of Items Ready to Archive = 7419229
Number of Messages that would be archived = 2000 (limit set per target pass)
Size of messages that would be archived = 53863

2. The only warning in the event log for this mailbox is:
The folder has Default permissions set that grant all users access to this folder. By default, this has not been synchronized to the users archive.

Which does'nt look to be an issue.

3.  Also, if I look at the "Store Detailed Usage Information" report it shows that this mailbox has'nt been modified since the day it was setup while all the others show the current  date.

4. All the MSMQ files show a size of 1K except there is a file with an extension of .mq that is 4096 Kb

Maybe disable and enable the mailbox again.

Try a Run Now just on that mailbox of 2000 items, see if it gets through it.

No luck so far, I've zapped the mailbox and added it back, tried using the ResetEVClient utility and nothing in this box will archive. However I did confirm that you can manually archive an email from Outlook using the add-on, that is working.

Could you enable client logging, and post the log?

Actually since the issue is with schedule archiving could you dtrace the archive task and agentclientbroker and do a run now of the mailbox for say 10 items?

Here is an interesting article about MSMQ and .mq messages.  If you have messages stuck in the MSMQ's after an archive run, this article may very well apply.  The user that you are having problems archiving may have some messages that are too large to be handled by MSMQ at its current settings.

check it out.
