I am running Enterprise Vault 8.0 SP4. Is VMWare VMotion supported with Enterprise Vault 8?

I don't believe so based on the compatibility charts, but again, doesn't mean that it doesn't work, just means it hasn't been tested and response to support calls may be limited (as is the case with Citrix)

It should work fine as long as you have it setup correctly.

This is the latest compatibility chart:

As you can see, vmware esx/esxi 3.5, 4.0 and 4.1 are all supported with EV8. there are no specific remarks to specific vmware features such as vmotion.

It works without Issue. I have it setup in my lab and i know of some people on connect who run EV completely in a VM environment and no issues

VMotion is mostly what I am concerned with. I have Symantec researching to see if VMotion is a supported feature of Enterprise Vault.  Any thoughts on this?

Nick White on these forums will be the best person to answer this as he is the QA Manager for EV, and if it hasn't be QA'd then it isn't supported (again, not to say it won't work, just isn't tested, and if it isn't tested then support is limited)

I sent a private reply to Alan, but I'll repost it here for completeness! Internally we have used Vmotion successfully but it has never been formally certified and hence doesn't appear in the certification tables.

If you are concerned about Vmotion, why don't you set it to not be vmotioned over and let all the other servers vmotion over?

I'm sure it will be fine. Citrix works fine with vmotion as there are no network dropouts at all and so the users don't even know.

We run ev8 SP3 in a vmware vsphere 4 environment.

It runs without issues and vmotion is a feature we use for the ev server without any problem.
