Vault Cache Download Failed

Hello

We're administering Enterprise vault 9.0.1.1073 environment for Exchange 2010 SP2 RU1 running on Windows 2008 R2. Outlook EV Add-in is 9.0.1.1073 HTTP.

One of the user is not able to download vault cache. I've attached snap-shot of error and snip of client log for reference.

Troubleshooting done so far:

1. Made sure machine can ping/resolve EV Server DNS Alias.

2. Reset vault cache.

3. Reset EV client.

4. Added host entries for EV Server DNS Alias.

5. Changed RPC/HTTP from "User Proxy" to "Direct" in Exchange desktop policy.

6. Made sure RPC/HTTP is disabled on client side.

7. Made sure vault cache directoy is not filled out or limit reached.

Reason I provided snip of client log is that I was performing client driven migration for this user while taking the log file so it has lot of message details in it. And the items currently seen in vault cache are only from the PSTs centralized using client driven migration for user.

Any thoughts or direction whcih I can further look at?

And in the proxy bypass it has the same machine name as what's in the http urls from the logs yeah? Don't suppose you have a firewall like the sink wall that could be causing the issue? Honestly your best bet is to contact msft as its a BITS issue

So it is apparent from the screen shot some items got downloaded.  Is the user local or remote to the EV Server?

If you look in the log, the relevent lines are

20/04/2012 20:53:45.102[4960]: Insufficient range support, unknown file size20/04/2012 20:53:45.102[4960]: Job Name is 'EV: 2012-04-20'
20/04/2012 20:53:45.103[4960]: Error description is 'The server does not support the necessary HTTP protocol. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) requires that the server support the Range protocol header.

Theres a microsoft KB article that describes this here, i'm assuming you are using a proxy?

The items are from PST files which were being migrated via client driven migration process (whcih copied those items to vault cache first handed)

The 13K items waiting for download is the figure which remains constant (or slightly increasing with time)

Yes Jesus - We use PAC file to access Internet sites via Proxy server. However all workstations in domain use same Proxy server/PAC File and have same configuration as this user.

Not sure why only 1 user will give issue if it was Proxy server? I will certainly look into this more.

can you try adding the EV Server to proxy bypass list?

We've added EV Server along with their DNS Alias and FQDN (for Site name as well) to Proxy bypass list via desktop policy and GPO.

Try bitsadmin to confirm it is BITS too. So, MSFT doesn't say "you are using 3rd party application...."

I tried to download a temporary file created on EV Server and use BITS to downlaod it. I see the EV BITS jobs are suspended because they don't have file associated with it.

I was following below article (except for the file creation part)

I tried to install BITS 2.0 and HTTPS 5.0 update mentioned below on user workstation but it errored out stating OS is already on newer version:

Thoughts? Or shall I say am I going in right direction?
