Virtualization of Evault to VMWare

I was wondering if I can get some recommendations on virtualizing my EV envirnoment to VMWare.  Our EV admin has left the organization and the likelihood of hiring someone with knowledge is very slim.  Anyway we are running EV 8.0 SP5 for on Win 2003 for archiving & journaling and using direct attached storage.  The storage currently attached is getting low and needs to be P2V'ed into our VM environment.  I've been reading several documents about VMDK's and the 2TB limitiation.  The current partitions on my EV server are setting as

D:\ enterprise vault installs

H:\ EV archives, on a 5TB partition and getting low on spac

I:\ indexes, also getting low on space

Discussing this with my Sys admins that manage VM, i've been informed that pretty much the only options I have are to upgrade the OS to 2008 R2 and use iSCSI LUNS to take advantage of partitions larger than 2TB or to keep the OS at 2003 and split up the data into smaller drives.

I don't see upgrading the OS as being a problem using the Move EV to a new server documentation, but if I choose this method do I really want to deal with large LUNs?  If we decide on option 2, keep the OS at 2003, how do we go about splitting up the data into smaller chunks?  When moving EV to another server, doesn't the new server need to be configured exactly as the current server?

I hope this makes sense as I'm trying to wrap my head around everything.  Please let me know if additional information is needed.

It is no problem to run EV virtual.

See this guide:

To move EV to another server, use the Enterprise Vault Server Settings Migration wizard:

In addition, to help resolve the Index drive problems.  You need to open new index locations on a drive/lun that has space and close the existing location.  This will not stop the existing drive from growning, but it will help in that any new archive indexes will be created in the new location.  You will also then be able to move some or the existing archive indexes to the new drive space.

Also, WRT to your VM, I would recommend that you use RDM (raw data mapping) for the existing 5TB index lun until you can resolve the other issues.

Thanks for the reply, but we are still on EV8.0 SP5.  The documents you pointed me too are for EV 10.

Would i be able to use RDM for the Vault archives which is  currently on the 5TB lun?  My indexes are currently located on a 1TB partition

I would check with my VM support guys, but yes, you should be able to RDM the 5TB lun as well.
