Hi,

we have some users who use Apple Mail with EV and they get strange (nearly) blank messages, with a blank subject line, every few days:

Subject:

Date: December 23, 2008 3:00:10 PM PST

Message-Id: <D325F772BEACFA4CAAD087712918FCD9018AF13443@EX01.YOUGOV.local<mailto:D325F772BEACFA4CAAD087712918FCD9018AF13443@EX01.YOUGOV.local>>

Accept-Language: en-US, de-DE

Content-Language: en-US

X-Ms-Has-Attach: yes

X-Ms-Tnef-Correlator:

Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="_002_D325F772BEACFA4CAAD087712918FCD9018AF13443EX01YOUGOVloc_"

Mime-Version: 1.0

Attached to this is a text file with this included:

Subject: Date: December 23, 2008 3:00:10 PM PST Message-Id: <D325F772BEACFA4CAAD087712918FCD9018AF13443@EX01.YOUGOV.local<mailto:D325F772BEACFA4CAAD087712918FCD9018AF13443@EX01.YOUGOV.local>> Accept-Language: en-US, de-DE Content-Language: en-US X-Ms-Has-Attach: yes X-Ms-Tnef-Correlator: Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="_002_D325F772BEACFA4CAAD087712918FCD9018AF13443EX01YOUGOVloc_" Mime-Version: 1.0

Does anyone know what this is, why these only seem to appear in Apple Mail (not in Outlook) and how to get rid of it?

Thanks for any help!

It is the hidden message.  :)

I would tell the user to just ignore it if they are ok with that.

Cheers,

So that looks like an archived message. Are you using shortcuts and if so how are they configured? Are shortcuts working for these users otherwise?

Shortcuts are being used for the people who cannot use the EV Outlook plug-in. Usually people use the plug-in but since there is no plug-in for Apple mail users, this particular persons must use the links provided by EV to open archives.

That looks to me like the hidden message.  What was the attachment name?

Yes, that's what we thought, probably the hidden message thingies... ;)

The name of the attachment is "EnterpriseVaultSettings.txt".

One of the users said that he has used EV in a different company before with Apple Mail and he did not get those mails at that time. So we believe there must be some technical solution for this.

Any more ideas?

Hi,

You have to have the hidden message to be enabled for archiving so I'm pretty certain the user is wrong.

I  have a user reporting a similar behavior:

The user states they get a blank message sent to them on a daily basis. The attachment is EnterpriseVaultSettings.txt and the content is:

I disabled their account but they still get the message.  The only unusual thing about the user is they use an IMAP client instead of Outlook.

This certainly looks like the hidden message, but why do they see it? Do I have to delete them from the archive completely for this behavior to go away?

Thanks,

yeah you will have to disable them from outlook as the IMAP functionality is a lot different from MAPI and the hidden message will be presented like this and EV just wont function correctly

Might be a corrupted hidden message, which is being 'actioned'

Disable mailbox for archiving
USe evpm to zap the mailbox (ie remove hidden messages)
enable mailbox.

See what happens

regardless of whether you zap or what not, IMAP will always download the hidden message in this manner

MAPI is the only protocol EV supports
