What to do to continue archiving with new mailbox ?

To All Experts,

I'm in the process of deleting my mailbox and then recreating it again due to the some corrupted items detected which caused my transaction log to grow beyond control in this particular mailbox. My mailbox has been around with the exchange server since 2005 therefore there are hundreds thousand of email that is archived in the EV Mailbox.

My current plan is:

1. Export mailbox content into .PST and then Delete the current mailbox

2. Recreate new mailbox and then Restore all of the email items from the exported PST above

3. ....????.... confused how to begin the archiving from the new mailbox or restore 3 years old email from the Vault ?

My questions are:

1. What to do to before I delete the mailbox
2. what to do after the mailbox restore ?

If anyone can advise what to do in regards to the steps above, I'll be very glad.

Thanks

Why export and import, you can just link the new mailbox to the old archive using EVPM or SynchInMigrationMode.  This would make your life a lot easier.

FYI, I'm now using Symantec EV 8 SP4 with Exchange Server 2007 SP1 and Outlook 2007 SP2

Dushan,

I'd suggest you to do the following:

1. Restore all EV backup archive items into the mailbox (kinda dump all of the content from EV mailbox into your mailbox)

2. Export it using the Outlook export

3. Delete the mailbox and delete the EV mailbox item or user as well.

4. create new mailbox and then restore the exported content above.

5. add this user into the EV archiving policy

6. after the office hour perform the archive.

No need to muck about with the old archive. 1> Disable existing mailbox for archiving 2> Create new mailbox 3> Move contents of old mailbox to new mailbox 4> Follow steps in this KB: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH65019&key=50996&actp=LIST#

OK, so here's the summarized action before I'm going to do it during the lunch time:

1. Pull all email from the EV vault (how to dump all ofthe email into the mailbox is still mystery ?)
2. Delete the EV Vault object/mailbox in EV Server (I don't know if this is possible?)
3. Export all of the mail item content from the Outlook (PST export)
4. Take screenshot for the mailbox user permission from the Exchange Server (Send as and full access list)
5. Connect the newly build mailbox with EV Vault to begin archiving.
6. Import all of the mailbox items from the PST into the new mailbox.

Many thanks for your reply mate,

However http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH48928 is saying about migrating the mailbox into differnet Exchange Server / perhaps new domain, in this csae no it is the same domain andthe same Exchange mailbox server.

How and what does it means by "Zapping inherited permission" as in "Clear (Zap) the inherited permissions on the archive, that will be pointing to the old user account. See Related Documents for details." ?
