Which option we choose for upgradtion/migration path

Dear All,

Currently we are running on EV 9.0.3 and on same hardware we are having EV SQL DBs.

For next phase, whether we should go for migration of 9.0.3 on 64 bit hardware along with SQL database .

or we should go for migration of 9.0.3 on 64 bit hardware and seperate SQL server simultaneously.

or We should first seperate SQL server on seperate server on 32 bit or 64 bit, running ev server on same Hardware of 32 bit. ( only SQL server migration)

and then migrate EV from old hardware to new and same time upgradinging it to 10.0.4.

Or you guys can suggest any other good options

Please revert.

Regards,

MontoN

Hello MontoN,

Having SQL and EV on the same server is officially not supported. Therefor, I suggest you do the following:

SQL-server - NEW server, W2008R2/Windows2012 with SQL2008R2. (x64 all)

Move databases to new SQL server.

EV - build new server (W2008R2). Make sure data and indexes are copied/synchronized to this server, and the path/drive names/letters are the same as on the original.

Use Server Migration Wizrd to move the EV9 directly to EV10.

See:

for 'starter' information

Thanks you for your revert.

As per your suggestion we can 1st move the SQL server on new hardware by using tech note

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH35744

After this , we can directly migrate EV server from 9.0.3 to 10.0.4 using migration utility.

Only concern for me is

As we are going phase wise, can we do SQL move activity in one weekend and EV migration activity in another week.

Thanks and Regards,

MontoN

Absolutely.

I would recommend doing this. This will give you time to resolve issues (if any). also, if you get 'strange' errors, you know then that it is from the sql move, and nothing else.

Thanks You, very much Sir!

Last query is that, will my 32 bit EV will be able to communicate with 64 bit SQL. As my current setup is on 32 bit hardware.

Please answer my query so that we can mark this as solution.

Thanks and Regards,

Hello MontoN,

Yes your 32bit EV will be able to communicate with 64 bit SQL.

With EV 9.x - > SQL Server 2005 x64 edition with SP2 onwards is supported

And EV 9.x - > SQL Server 2008 x64 edition, Enterprise and Standard with SP1 onwards it supproted.

For More information you can check the comaptibility guide of Enterprise Vault.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH38537  -- Check page No. 13.

I hope this helps !!!
