Why multiple 3156 events for one archiving task?

Andy_Lukens

I have seen several occasions recently where I am getting 2-3 instances in a row of the same archiving task starting processing (event 3156).  These all occur within a minute.  This results in every mailbox being added to the A5 queue 2-3 times.  Each occurance is with the same server and I have already tried deleting and recreating the task.

Since our EV infrastructure is already running full out during the mailbox archiving window, it can't get to the additional items in queue.

Any ideas why this might be occurring?

Thanks

Andy,

Post the actual Event from the event log.

Here's the actual event.  It occurred three times for the same server within 1 minute and 4 seconds last night.  Some nights it starts twice and others only once.  Other mailbox archiving tasks on the same EV server only seem to start once, but this Exchange server has by far the most mailboxes.

That's a rather odd one.
There is only 1 archiving task for this server, I believe.

Can you remember changing anything in the timeframe where this started to happen?

I'm not sure, but recreating the archiving task for this server may help.

Ensure the task has no outstanding work before deleting it.

Thanks for the replies.  I had previously tried deleting and recreating the task which didn't help.

However, I did reduce the number of tasks launching simultaneously and haven't had the this issue recur in the few days since that change.

Do you mean the number on threads within a task or actual task?

I reduced the actual number of tasks running simultaneously from 6 to 5.

Haven't got more ideas on this one.
I'd suggest that you open a case with Symantec for this.

Would be glad if you could post the results here, as it may help others.
