I am running Enterprise Vault V9.0 with Exchange 2007 Sp3 RU5. We are wanting to start using shared archives. I can create shared folders, but I not sur how to access. Also, if I have permissions to a shared archive can I archive to the share? If so, then how?

An important thing to note is that a Shared Archive flat, meaning there is not a folder structure.

Could I ask you to elaborate a bit on the use case?  There might be some better options for you based on what you are trying to do.

Sometimes we have users that leave and their information has been archive to disk in the form of PST files. At times we might have to bring this information back into the system for viewing by multiple users. I thought that the shared archive would be the best solution but now, doesn't appear to be.

Also, forgot to mention, users may want to add to the archive.

Hey PoorAdmin,

we will publish this week a new tool, that is able to archive company leavers - and convert the archive into a "structured" shared archive. (preserving the Folder Hierarchy)

Nothing for the "old" ones but maybe you want to give it a try for the new leavers.

The basic version of the tool is free... http://www.quadrotech-it.com/products/evtools/free/

Peter

Your old employee emails may have been already archived (at least many of them). And if there were still some emails which were not already archived, then I belive you have them in PST now.  You can now archive all emails from PST file, to this old employee's original archive, using PST Migration tool of EV.

Once all emails of old employee are in his archive - then simply go an give access on his archive to any number of users/current employees, whom you want to allow access to. (consider giving Read only access).

Once permissions are given to other users, they should be able to see all emails of old employee using Archive Explorer UI. (http://<fqdn.of.your.ev.server>/EnterpriseVault/archiveExplorerUI.asp)

The thing is, if the user object in AD doesn't exist, and the Archive exists without an existing mailbox, the PST Import in to that archive will not work, you'd have to create them a mailbox and provision for that to work
