eVault for outlook 2007 - check propeties

BobbyD1120

Hello

I have eVault set on my Outlook 2007 system that is part of a domain.  We have a GPO set that enables "outlook anywhere" which I have found disables the ablitiy to check/change your eVault properties to include archieve settings.  I would like to know where are the vault properties stored and how can I access them with out going through outlook.  Are they stored in a reg key or in a file somewhere?   I would like to keep my gpo in place that forces otulook anywhere.  However I want to ensure the vault setting changes I made are still tack and also possibly be able to settings wiht out using outlook.

Is there a script file that may be able to accompish this or can I at a minimum view the settings via the regsitry or a file?

Thanks for assistance!!

Yes you will need to upgrade to either a Post SP 4 hotfix, or just go straight to EV 2007 SP 6.  You can find the hotfix online, I believe.  The general SP 6 will be on FileConnect where the normal media is kept.  You don't need to upgrade your server.

The problem when you enable Outlook Anywhere or RPC/HTTP as it was formally known is that our EV addin does not know whether you are TRULY connected via RPC/HTTP or TCP.

If you're in the office, and you have connectivity to the EV server, and you want the "full client functionality", then you can follow the solution given in this forum post.

http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/full-ev-client-rcphttp-enabled

You set the key on each client machine (login script, GPO, etc, etc).

(PS Don't call it Evault.. it makes me cringe! :)

Thank you very much for the prompt reply.

I have reviewed the solution.  However have a few uncertainties as follows:

* How do I access the Exchange Policy Properties to change the outlook add-in behavior?  Is this somewhere in outlook or on the exchange server?
* If I change the behavior of the outlook add-ins do I also need to create the UseSelfInstallFunct reg key?
* What is the difference between setting the outlook add-in behavior to normal and the use of the DCOMOverrideRPCHTTP and DCOMPollInterval reg keys? Do both options have the same result or do I need both.

1.  How do you access the exchange policy properties?
It's referring to the Exchange Archiving Policy in the Vault Admin Console on the Enterprise Vault server
To change the behavior, find the policy that controls the mailbox in question, go to the properties then go to the advanced tab, under the Outlook drop down, you will find an option called Outlook Add In Behavior and change it to something appropriate

Once this is changed, you will have to synchronize your mailbox via the archiving task that controls your mailbox

2. You do not need to create the reg key, i don't even think the newer clients will even read that reg key, if it does exist though, just delete it and have the client determine what mode to use by reading the hidden message in outlook

thanks for the response.  I checked the policy and its currentley set to "normal" .   Should it be set to normal to http-only?  The provided link states "change to normal" then below states to set to "HTTP-only"

Which is the correct setting?  HTTP-only or Normal?  Currently we are set to normal.

"You just need to change HTTP-Only in the pic bellow to Normal-

Set the Outlook Add-In Behavior to HTTP-Only

Apply the setting and synchronize the mailboxes"

anyone know whether the setting should be "normal" or "http-only" to permit the use of EV with outlook anywhere enabled?

Bobby,

It doesn't matter what that policy setting says in this scenario.  If RPC/HTTP is detected in your Outlook profile at all, the EV Outlook Add-in drops back to HTTP functionality, meaning you don't get the EV properties page, you don't get to choose the archive to store an item to, etc.  This is because Outlook can't tell us, and we can't interogate it to find out whether you are REALLY using RPC/HTTP or not..  so if it's in your profile, the client operations are in HTTP  mode.

That being the case if you want to access the EV properties of a folder, you'll need to implement the registry key I mentioned in my previous posting.  And if you using EV 2007 (sorry I didn't see a version when I quickly scolled) you should use the EV 2007 SP 6 client, and if you're EV 8, then use the EV 8 SP 3 client.

Hope that helps,

I just verified my build number and Im using 2007 (7.5.4.2534.0.http) which is only SP4.

Is it possible this is the root casue of my issues?

How can I upgrade my EV client?  Does this have be pushed from the EV server?  Is it possible for me to download and install locally with out having to go through the EV server?

Thank you!!!

Yes you will need to upgrade to either a Post SP 4 hotfix, or just go straight to EV 2007 SP 6.  You can find the hotfix online, I believe.  The general SP 6 will be on FileConnect where the normal media is kept.  You don't need to upgrade your server.
