Mumair, I think there are two different issues here.  First off, the fact that you are attempting to access the item through the preview pane, rather than opening the item, I believe is why you are seeing that behavior.

If you double-click on the item, rather than selecting it through the preview, does the item retrieve? This is the standard method to access archived items through OWA.

As for EV using the Internal Name when selecting Search, JW2 discussed this at the beginning - please read this post for configuring this to use the external name:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/enterprise-vault-10-owa-extension-problems#comment-67...

If you need immediate assistance to look at this in detail, or the forum is not efficient enough, I'd recommend opening a case with Support.

I hope this helps.

Check this post from Chris Warren on the subject

You should just have to edit the web.config to use the correct External URL

Are you selecting these from Search or Archive Explorer?

If so, then that post will help you sort out the whole External WebApp URL.  However, if you are just selecting an archived item through OWA, it sounds like the initial retrieval may not be working. When that happens, the original item is not retrieved and the request I believe is redirected from evserver\EVAnon to internalevservername\EnterpriseVault\Viewmessage.asp.  When you state "i manually change address from address bar from ".net"  to  ".com" then its working", are you showing the OWA-formatted message or an HTML conversion of the message?

Assuming this is the case and it is redirecting to viewmessage, we need to figure out why the initial retrieve (actually it is temporarily restored to the mailbox) may not be working.  This generally can be caused by a failure during the use of restoreo2k.asp on the EV server.  I would start with locating the GET request to \EVAnon\Restoreo2k.asp in the IIS on the EV Server.

I'd also suggest enabling OWA logging on the CAS so we can see what exactly happening:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH60712

(See EnterpriseVault_LogEnabled)

A common thing I've seen can be a 'time-out' on this part and the IIS return being something along the lines of '200 0 64', where 64 is a win32 status code that translates to 'The specified network name is no longer available'.  That can be caused by EV taking longer than 30 seconds to check permissions to the archive, access and retrieve the message from storage.

I hope this helps.

here is the whole scenario please tell me the resolution steps:

internal: https://evserver.mtngh.root.net

external: https://evserver.mtn.com.gh (any one can check to brows its browsing and Published from ISA Server)

if i am in the office i can access my archived items on clicking "VIEW THE ORGINAL ITEM" when i click on this orginal item link i can access locally that is open in IE with local address "https://evserver.mtngh.root.net" but when i am out side of my network suppose from home it is not working because of address "https://evserver.mtngh.root.net" then from IE address bar i just change "HTTPS://EVSERVER.MTN.COM.GH" then its working so what changes i need to made so then when i click any archive item it opens with "External URL that is HTTPS://EVSERVER.MTN.COM.GH" now please some one help me to resolve this issue.

examples URL for Archived items:

https://evserver.mtngh.root.net/EnterpriseVault/ViewMessage.asp?VaultId=127D2646A95D95F498E8317DA00953E291110000EVSERVER&SavesetId=201202098820864~201201251202240000~Z~D151C8CAC2515E132BD1BE8D9AA09371

from above link i just change "evserver.mtngh.root.net with evserver.mtn.com.gh remaining link is same then it works.

Good news is that it appears that the ISA rule from external to internal seems to be working, since you are able to change the server to the external name and it will work. But it sounds like you may be attempting to open item through the preview pane.  Is this the case?  Or are you double-clicking on the archived item?

Also, we should confirm something: Do you show the Search and Archive Explorer options?  I ask this to make sure the OWA session knows your mailbox is archive enabled. (I'm pretty sure it does)

The URL to access the items is utilizing \EnterpriseVault\ViewMessage.asp.  This will return the HTML version of the message, not the OWA formatted message. Normally, when opening an archived item, this will first attempt to access \EVAnon\Restoreo2k.asp.  If this fails, it will move to viewmessage.asp, using the internal name, not the external name.

So, a couple of questions:

a. Do you see Search and Archive Explorer in the OWA page, or any EV toolbar options?

b. Are you attempting to access the archived item by double-clicking or through the link of the preview?

- Is there a difference in the result?

c. On the associated EV Server, do you have the EVAnon virtual directory in IIS (built using the owauser.wsf script)?

- If EV cannot access the EVAnon virtual directory, it will redirect to the EnterpriseVault virtual directory

d. In the Desktop policy - Advanced - OWA, is "View Mode" set to Enterprise Vault (html format) or OWA?

- This controls if the item will be retrieved in html format.

I hope this helps.

Mumair,

This is a peer to peer forum and almost every one here has a day job.  Even though there are some Symantec employees on here they participate on their off hours.  The forum isn't a replacement for support, so as JW2 has posted, if you matter is that urgent you need to contact support.

Were you able to resolve this issue with support or are you still experiencing issues with OWA?
