ev 8 sp3
have an issue where the users expiry report is falsely reporting items that are going to expire, see the attached example.
the user has an email that's in a folder with a retention of 15yrs, when you open the email and do properties on it, it shows the correct retention, see attached.
when i look at the retention of the top level folder it shows the correct retention, when you look at the sub folder it doesnt show the retention catageory.
any help would be great.
thanks

Well the technote I referenced indicates it is an issue with the following versions so I would expect it to have the same results until you upgrade to EV 10.

  • 9.0.5, 9.0.4, 9.0.3, 9.0.2, 9.0.1, 9.0
  • 8.0 SP5, 8.0 SP4, 8.0 SP3, 8.0 SP2, 8.0 SP1, 8.0

Running the Expiry report in Outlook shows items beyond the expiry days when using ItemGranularityOnly indexing.

First, you are still on EV 8??  You are way behind and should consider upgrading ASAP.

I believe this might be causing your issue, if it is upgrading to EV 10 should fix it based on the Products affected in the this Technote:

Can you confirm you have ItemGranularity set?

How to enable SchemaType also known as ItemGranularityOnly

tony,

thank you for your response.

yes we are set to 1 in the registry.

i know, were on e 8 still..just a few behind, lol. we are unsure what were going to do yet, upgrade or maybe go with office 365, were throwing ideas around a bit.

i have been working with tech support and i think going up to sp5 will fix the issue, just to get us by.

thank you very much again.

ok we applied the sp5 and the hotfix and are getting the same results?

could it be a coding issue in the expiry report file, what file is it using? that might be reporting the item false.

i beleiev it uses the searcho2k.asp, if so we have a custom one that was built for us by symantec services.

everything matches, the retention all around, folder, item, and in sql,
