Well if it was an issue where the user needs support, just upgrade to EV7, thats not end of support life until december 2013, but i would put my money on missing DVS files and/or corrupt CAB collections

But impossible to say without dtrace and event viewer, would completely forget outlook and pst quotas for the moment and concentrate on the actual errors themselves

Here is a tip from my own experience:

- Look at the size of the folder in which the failing exports are going.

If the all of failing exports are going into different export folders and are failing with their export folder at a certain size (i.e., 20 GB), the issue could be with the Microsoft Outlook installation on the EV server.  I had a customer trying to export their Journal Archive to PST files for historic reference.  The exports always failed when the folder into which the PST files were going reached about 20 GB.  We found that the Outlook installation had some type of corruption that we could not identify.  We did find, however, that uninstalling Outlook, booting the server, and installing Outlook with the appropriate patches fixed the issue.

Something for you to look into.  I hope this helps.

I think with EV6 , actually all the way through to late EV8, although you had the limit of 20GB, it always rolled over at 1.8GB for PST size, but I have seen it too where it doesnt roll over gracefully at 20GB

Best advice i can give is DTrace MigratorServer and look at your Event logs, you may be seeing missing DVS files from your installation, or corrupt CAB files if you use collections

Also how many exports are you doing at any one time?

Hi,

Great information provided by Ken.

One more thing need to check for Export Location is that location should exclude from Antivirus Scanning.

Recommended list of antivirus exclusions for Symantec Enterprise Vault.

im trying the office updates now, and double checking the av exclusion.

20gb limit on the pst file size? ours at most might be 2 gb.

thank you all for the responses.

PST limit size is more related to Outlook than to Enterprise Vault:

Based on the Outlook version youi have installed on the EV server, you should limit the size of the PST.

Well the thing is, as I and Rob pointed out, before EV9 SP2, it always rolled over at 2GB maximum and not the Unicode version, that was regardless of GPO or version of outlook installed

Really the best bet is to check dtrace and event logs to see what errors you are seeing when its failing to export, with an environment that old, i wouldnt be surprised if its missing or corrupt data

You folks are misunderstanding what I said.  The actual size of the folder into which the PST files were being written stopped the export in my customer's case when that folder size got to 20 GB.

The individual PST files are hard coded to 1.5 GB maximum size in EV 6.0 though 9.0 SP1.  It's the actual folder containing the PST files that had the size limitation, which was not be design in Outlook.

There was just something corrupted about my customer's Outlook installation on the EV server where it had to be uninstalled, the server booted, and then Outlook re-installed along with the appropriate patches and registry values (i.e., AttachmentMax and RecipientMax, both set to 0xffffffff).

It's really difficult to comment on why archive export to PST hangs/failing without events or dtrace. As already suggested to patch outlook on EV server to 2003 with latest SP & HF then peform export. You need to focus on 1 export failure/hang at a time and look at logs (event, report, trace) and fix it one by one.

EV 6.0 is very old version and I would recommend you to upgrade to EV 9.0 (Obliviously following proper upgrade path) as this version would be best version if contact support team.
