re-installing ev caused harddisk access deny

Charles_C

Hi expert,

for some reasons, I  need to re-install the EV and EVDG in the server because I need to expand the harddisk size,

previously, we have domino 8.5.2 (domino installed in c:\program files(X86), and data installed in d:\), EVDG (evdg installed in c:\program files(X86), enterprise vault storage is in d:\)

I want to expand the d:\ because someone said the archived mails are stored in d:\enterprise vault instead of the sql server db.

after I installed the new harddisk and install back everything, I found that my d:\ no longer accessible,

so strange, I found that it occurs after the installation of EV.

does anyone have idea what's going on?

Thx

Sounds like the server is clustered and when the service starts the ownership of the disk is moved to the other server in the cluster so the disk will show but not accessible

So you're saying you uninstall EV, the D:\ is accessible, then you install EV, its not accessible?
and when you say not accessible, you're saying that Windows is giving an error saying that access is denied? or does the drive just fall off of Windows Explorer etc?

I have never heard of this issue before, i'm pretty confident it is nothing to do with EV.
Do you have any errors in the System log in the event viewer? have you run a chkdsk to make sure there is nothing physically wrong with the drive?

Agree with JW2, seems highly unlikely EV would cause that and a picture is worth a thousand words.  :)

wt i mean is, when the ev service not start, i am able to see the d:\ with its contents.

however, when the ev service starts, the d:\ become unaccessible.

this occurs after i re-install the ev.

Ok so you star the EV service, inaccessible, stop the service, you can access it? Which service? Admin? Directory? Storage? Task etc? You didn't install any of the EV FSA drivers on this machine did you? can you DTrace the service causing the failure? Also doesn't the service have its files located on D;? So if the service is still running then *something* has access to the drive Also is this a locally attached drive? And again have you got any errors in the event logs?

And last thing, can you disable UAC (User Access Control)? http://www.serverintellect.com/support/windowsserver2008/2008-UAC.aspx

What was the deal in this nutty issue? If you worked it out please update us and flag it as resolved. If you did not... can you provide the information that the others posted. All are great suggestions iMHO.... and no it does not really sound like an EV issue, outside of the fact that it allegedly happens only with the VSA and when some EV service is installed.

Thanks in advanced.
