Hi,
Is there a solution for the scenario where in the new EV 11 search inside outlook window, when user double clicks an email - instead of opening inside outlook as msg file - it pops out a window asking if you want to save or open the file?
My customers are really not happy with this...
I tried one solution suggested with tweaking the registry - it didn't work.
Is there any change that I missed?

Honestly just look at the explanation

The solution that i posted wasn't just a random hack, this was for SAP and Citrix, arguably bigger products suffer the same issue

The work around is microsofts, it doesn't work, so it makes sense to contact Microsoft.
I know where i work we have our own homegrown products, and part of the installer adds an association so that when you click it in IE it opens in the application as opposed to Save/Open dialog
So honestly not sure how to be more thorough than the explanation that I gave, but the hook in to Valkyrie.dll simply doesn't exist in EV11 for cross browser compatibility. It's odd that of all the massive improvements the modern search brings, the hang up is an open/save dialog, its just weird

i havent seen anything else besides JesusWept's registry solution. from what's been previously discussed, i believe it's a function of the OS and browser, not EV.

Yes, I agree with your customers, and it's certainly a blocker to upgrading to the new search for many of my "high maintenance" users. To ease the problem for those using the new search, I encourage them to go to the hamburger menu in the top right and select "Launch in a new window." This way, you don't get the separate popup download window but instead the open/save bar at the bottom of the browser which many find less obtrusive and easier to work with.

The problem here is that my customer refuse to accept Symantec claim that this is a MS issue.
As they were work with IE 10/11 and EV 10 and everything is OK, and once upgrading to EV 11 they get the pop up screen, when no change was made to the IE version.
So, it makes sense that something is changes in the way the new search is working and using the IE options, but to throw this to MS sounds really unprofessional and at the moment I'm stuck in the middle...
I will suggest them what you offered, it may quite them for a while, but I do believe this is a major issue that should be taken care of by Symantec, as it makes the whole point of upgrading for the sake of the new search useless...

Hi JW,
I did read the explanation and the suggested workaround.
Unfortunately, my customer still uses IE 8 so the workaround will not assist. (they cannot upgrade IE at the moment due to other app limitations)
His claim is that the search of EV 10 used IE as well as the search of EV 11, so he expects this to work.
I explained to him that due to changes in the file handling and the fact that some dll are no longer in use it works all from IE, and therefor he should open a case with Microsoft.
As you know, most IT customers are fine, the end customers are the ones that kill you... the lady from accounting doesn't really care how the system works, she cares that she double click her search result and get a prompt she is unfamiliar with.
Multiply it in a 7000 users environment, and you can guess why all the anger.
Anyway - as always - thanks for your answer, I showed it to the customer, he will open a case at MS and update me.
