we have a challenge with EV8.
We have installed 2010
In EV console when I try to add the new exchange 2010 server as a target, I get the error: Mail boxes not found .
So what do we do. Do we install EV 9 in the same site then install EV 9 agents on Exchange 2010.....?

to archive from exchange 2010 SP1 (!!!) you need to goto EV9.
EV8 cannot archive from Exchange 2010.
Upgrade to 9 asap.

Dear Sir,
How we start upgrade
Procedure to upgrade because we already have archive mail box in EV 8 for around 500 users
The SQl database is connected to store the archive mail boxes

Dear GertjanA,
1) currently EV8 running on standalone server. It was running Exchange 2007 Archival and Journalling task, for an Exhange 2007 CCR Cluster.
2) The client however, migrated the mailboxes to a new Exchange 2010 Mailbox cluster.
3) Now we plan to deploy EV 9 as 2010 Exchange is only supported on EV9.
What is the best way forward, considering the fact that we can not restore Archived items in EV console, to their original mailboxes, because they have been migrated to 2010 server.
Is there a way to restore the archive mail b4 upgrading to EV9? We are aware of the PST option but the client has serious concerns as those PST can be accessed by anyone.

what's the problem with upgrading your one and only EV server from EV8 to EV9?

we have 500 mails boxes which is archived . Our major consern is data loss should not happen
EV8 is 32 bit
11-15-2010 02:17 AM
Why do you think there is data loss? The users on Exchange 2010 could use Search or Archive Explorer web pages. when you upgrade to Exchange 2010 the uusers should regain full function.
EV will not just lose data because it has lost the mailbox

we have ev8 on 32 bit on 2003 ent Server & we want to install EV9 support 64 bit & connect to Exchange 2010 how we restore the mail box in that case . we use SQL server2008 R2 for ev8 64 bit pleasse tell me setps how to procced for migration process

Ok so... Upgrade to EV 9 in place and then do a data only DR to the new server. Data only DR is covered in the admin guide. If you are worried by the process it might be a better idea to use a consultancy firm to help out. A forum is good for pointrs not fully fledged step by step guidelines.

Dear Mohawk Marvin,
Thanks for your reply please see below text
1) We had an EV 8 32bit installed on W2K3 32 bit, running Archival tasks for Exchange 2007.
2) The Client installed Exchange 2010 and migrated all mailboxes to 2010.
3) This implies that we can not restore the Archived items using the Wizard in the EV Console, unless we restore to PST files (Which the client is not comfortable with)
4) They also plan to upgrade to EV9.
Our concern is that we want to restore all archive items, then install EV9
or is it possible to install EV9 to the same site, connect it to Exchange 2010, and move all configuration, partitions, indexes to EV9 from EV8...

Why do you want to restore data?
Why not follow the brief overview I listed earlier in as much that you keep the same site, no data transfers etc barring the final Data only DR.
I would strongly advise you ring SYMC or a partner to help out here. It seems you are making a relatively tried and tested method and trying to over complicate things.
True migrations can be handled by 3rd party tools, such as GlassHouse and TransVault. However, I really doubt you need either in this case
