Hi,

I am experiencing a problem with autoloader IBM ts2900, when perfoming inventory from backup exec it change the slots order.

I tried to configure the logical library mode of the autoloader to sequential with loop and autoload enalbed, after that if I perform inventory on slots the library goes offline.

Any help or suggestions ?

I am using backup exec 2010 R3/windows server 2008 R2

...so, not sure who/why I got a -1, but anyway.

The only reason I can see for the tapes changing place is that you have a free slot somewhere, and the tapes are being swopped around as such. If the slots are full, then the tapes should be put back into exactly the same place as they were taken out of, considering there would be no other place to put it.

Hi,

Make sure you are using the Symantec drivers for the device. Run tapeinst.exe to do so. Also make sure that the latest drivers are loaded from LiveUpdate.

If this doesn't work, download the IBM tape tools and run them against the drive to rule out possible hardware problems. You would need to stop the BE services first.

Thanks!

Thank you Craig,

Just let me clarify the issue, actually what is happening is that, when I perform tape inventory, say for Column 1 (which contains two slots: slot1 & slot2), intillay slot1 is located on the front of the magazine and contains tape1 and slot2 on the back and contains tape2, So say I want to do make the inventory for tape2, after the inventory job finish the associator move the tape1 to slot2 and replace tape1 with tape2 in slot1.

Why the autoloader has changed the place for both tapes?

Could you please explain this strange behavior ? I was trying to configure the logical library mode of the autoloader to sequential with loop and autoload enalbed, after that if I perform inventory job on all slots the library goes offline and a new library is created.

If I configure the sequential option does it fix the issue, or nothing to do with that?

Thanks,
Tarek
