I recently uninstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP). However, it looks like a .dll file VPSHELLRES.DLL has now become problematic. Microsoft as well as numerous sources on the web say that this is a Symantec file. Trouble is, whenever I try to delete or copy a file on my computer, I get a dialog box that says that VPSHELLRES.DLL cannot be found. Click past it and you can proceed, but it is VERY annoying.
I managed to find a website that has this file for downloading and I placed it in my C:\Windows folder, but to no avail. I searched for a reference to the file in my registry, but can't find it, so I don't understand why it is even being invoked. I'm running Windows XP 32-bit.

There may be a remnants of SEP on your system, see this Symantec KB for manual uninstall preceedures.

If that fails to do work for you, you can contact support and have them supply you the Cleanwipe tool for removing all traces of SEP.
