Hi,

Does anyone can help me with some info on what the difference is between Symantec Norton Internet Security 2011 NIS 1yr 1PC 2010 and Norton Antivirus 2008? I used the 2008 version to update my computer, but now they are coming up with the what is the Symantec Norton Internet Security 2011 NIS 1yr 1PC 2010 and I am not sure about the difference. Is it the same software just newer version or is it an additional product?

If it is the same, just newer version, do I necesseraly need to update?

Hi,

NIS includes a firewall, along with the Norton AV, and you're able to get Internet protection with it as well. It does antispam, antiphishing and Identify Protection as well amongst others.

Norton AV 2008 is simply an antivirus.

If you want an all-in-one application, go for NIS 2011. I am using it on my laptop, and so far, so good...it is working well.

If you want additional advice, check the Norton forum link below:

The link below refers to Norton Internet Security 2011 as well...

Thanks!

Here is a good comparison chart of our AV based products.

Hello,

First I can state,

SONAR was just starting out 1.0 anyways features is the big difference and the AV data base difference is HUGE.

these are some of the many different things 2011 and 2008 do.

NIS has a lot of difference when compared to NAV. forget the version you have.

NIS has an inbuilt firewall. It makes a lot of difference. because the product was designed to protect the online threats like spyware, malware, adware etc NAV do not have this feature.

There were so many techniques involved in scanning and detecting a threat in the newer versions, and one such technique is SONAR.

NAV is as good as NIS, but does not have a firewall to protect from incoming and outgoing threats which is so important these days.

In your case i will recommend to use NIS 11. Its a better product than NAV(any version).
