Why do Veritas TN links redirect after all this time?

Hi there,

When is this issue going to get fixed? When clicking a link to a Veritas TN, it invariably redirects to a "nothing" Technical Support page. This means going back and clicking on the link yet again!

Clicking this link:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100008870

...takes me here:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US.html?profileURL=https%3A%2F%2Fvam-profile.veritas.com%2FVAMSSO...

Thanks!

Hi Craig - Thanks for posting about this. I am unable to re-create this scenario - clicking the link you posted takes me directly to the Article. Can you add some more context here? What browser are you using, where is the link posted upon which you are clicking, are you logged in, etc.

If I can reproduce it, we can get it fixed.

Thanks!

Hi Joe,

It's working now, but tomorrow it might not.

I have used either Chrome or Internet Explorer, and both have given me the same issue on 2 different laptops (work and home).

Thanks!

I have the exact same experience as @CraigV.

The URL actually starts to load, but the next moment I get redirected to the Support home page.
This happens when I right-click, open in new tab.

When I go back to the 'source' tab and do the same thing (right-click, open in new tab), the TN/URL will open.

....glad it's not just me!

@CraigV & @Marianne

Thank you both for bringing this to our attention. I'm having our web technical team investigate this behaviour as it sounds like it's intermittent but frequent enough. Would it be possible for next time either of you experience this to write down the Date/Time and URL you clicked then and then post back to this thread (or feel free to DM me)? Usually having this information would be helpful so we can try to review logs on the server during that time.

Thank you both for the feedback.

I think it has something to do with logon to Support web site. You can see in Craig's example above that VAM is part of the URL.

I have tested it a moment ago - I get the Support landing page with the following in the address bar:

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US.html?profileURL=https%3A%2F%2Fvam-profile.veritas.com%2FVAMSSO%2Findex.jsp%3FssoID%3D1510843240649WGs6Kc7PbBa2gT3cLhSdjAx01Fr3kM3wbxLeJ

Hello, @CraigV and @Marianne –

Following-up upon this conversation – this thread was brought to my attention once more, and I'd welcome an update on the issue experienced. Have you seen a resolution?

@BrianWeber and @JoeKug, have you since been able to replicate this user experience?

I hope this message finds all parties well.

Kindly – Alexandra Matthiesen, VOX Community Manager

We are still investigating this. We made a configuration change last night thinking it may help. Unfortunately, I was able to duplicate this once in FireFox, so I've seen the behaviour and it does seem to occur intermittently. I'll continue to work with our technical team on this issue and will post back once I've been able to confirm it's resolved.

Thank you both for your patience. We value your feedback and hope to continue to enhance your experience with Veritas.

Regards -
Brian

Thanks for the update @BrianWeber

I am just grateful that @CraigV took the time to post here.
I must admit that this has been extremely frustrating...

I have just tested opening a TN from a forum post - if opened the correct URL straight away.
Oh, and the URL in the opening post as well.

So far so good! Thanks!

Okay... issue is still around....

Just opened this URL from within a post:  https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH157529

It went here: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US.html?profileURL=https%3A%2F%2Fvam-profile.veritas.com%2FVAMSSO...

Certainly something to do with VAM credential checks, right?
Although there is no real requirement to be logged on in order to open TNs/KB articles?

Second attempt opened the TN.

No worries, I noticed it on the one occasion I happened to come on here. Visits have been sporadic at the moment.

Happened twice to me this morning... Smiley Sad

@BrianWeber Is there any hope that this will be resolved anytime soon?

Why does VAM credentials need to be checked when opening a KB article?

The issue is being worked with our development team but it requires some coding changes so the release timing is still being worked out. Once I have some definite time frames I'll post them to this thread. Appreciate the patience and apologize about the inconvenience it has caused.

As to your question on "VAM Credential being checked when opening the article", the article isn't what is requesting a check it's the "Logged in" check for the icon and what not on the top left.

Thanks Brian, only saw this now. I am not on VOX anymore as often as I used to be. Thanks!

This is getting extremely annoying.

Every 1st attempt to open a KB Article (even from Google) goes to the main Support site (with the VAM reference in the URL).
Subsequent attempt then opens the correct URL.

Why on earth should being logged on (or not) be an issue or even checked?
This is something totally new that was added recently.

bump!

still happening to date. takes me to https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US.html?profileURL=https%3A%2F%2Fvam-profile.veritas.com%2FVAMSSO...

btw, it happens intermittently and at random TNs. i've used all browsers available on this planet with same results. maybe the testers should try accessing the TNs from different geolocations if you can't replicate it within your LAN.
