Welcome to the day one review of our first Virtual Technical Forum! This annual event is usually run as a face to face activity in a European city, but this year we quickly adapted to the government lockdown pandemic measures to deliver a virtual forum for our customers and partners based in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

Peter Grimmond opened the forum with a summary of how COVID-19 has had a huge impact on our daily lives, changing shopping habits, how we travel and work. He mentioned that a recent O2 survey found 50% of respondents will be working from home post the pandemic. This is clearly going to have an impact on IT departments as they scale up to supporting large remote workforces. COVID-19 has accelerated IT projects and has seen an increased use of collaboration platforms as businesses strive to connect employees and maintain business continuity. During this challenging period, businesses need to remain resilient and maintain uptimes. This is where Veritas can help by ensuring your data is protected and your business-critical applications are highly available minimising downtime.

Next up was Doug Matthews, he spoke about our flagship product and the king of backup; NetBackup, a unified data protection platform that supports traditional, virtual, cloud, and SaaS workloads. Helping to reduce backup and recovery times and operational investment for data protection. He discussed a common business threat that has escalated during COVID-19; Ransomware attacks. Data is one of the most valuable assets of any organisation and must be protected. He said we are here to help you protect, detect, mitigate, and recover your data if faced with a potential threat of loss of data.

Karthik Ramamurthy, who leads our Software-Defined Storage and Appliances business, touched on how Veritas is a recognised as a global leader in data protection with IDC confirming our status as number 1 in terms of market share. And that we are a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Centre Backup and Recovery Solutions for 14 years. You can trust Veritas with your most valuable asset, data, to protect and recover it.

Ajay Bhatia took the mic and presented the main digital compliance challenges he sees our customers are facing globally with the exponential growth of dark data, increasing litigation, new and revised global data protection regulations, and the need to be compliant and ensuring the protection of data privacy.

The day concluded with two product-focused sessions; one for NetBackup and one on InfoScale, the content was under NDA, so I’m not able to share any insights but do watch this space for future new releases.

Bye for now, I’ll be back tomorrow for a Day Two Virtual Technical Forum wrap up post.
