That was the biggest and best Veritas Technical Forum held in Madrid, Spain from 3 to 6 June 2019, with top customers and partners joining on 5 and 6 June. The event is now in its fifth year and continues to grow in popularity. Peter Grimmond, Vice President for EMEA Technology opened the event with much delight from the attendees. He spoke about how Veritas has helped many organisations to future proof their data management strategies, policies, processes and storage. And that Veritas is the only data management vendor to be number 1 in Enterprise Data Management, Software Defined Storage and Enterprise Archiving, this pedigree continues to be utilised by tens of thousands of customers worldwide.
Peter said that it is impossible to use the same data management techniques to deal with today's business challenges and complexities and that it is essential that businesses optimise for costs in a cost constraint world, thus ensuring businesses are always protected and optimised. So, how do you do this? Optimising data in a cost constraint world can be tricky and generally you have two options:
Simplifying the data you have stored is core to Veritas' data management platform.
In recent years the Technical Forum has grown from being a small meetup group discussing Veritas' flagship product NetBackup to an event covering the full product portfolio. It is great to see our loyal customers and partners joining us year after year, as well as new faces joining this exclusive event.
During the event, Veritas' product management team from across the portfolio presented to Europe, Middle East and Africa's (EMEA's) top customers and partners on what's coming soon and expressed there are exciting times ahead. There was a lot of enthusiasm and interest in the Q&A panel with the product management team, taking a deeper dive into some of the presentation content they had earlier presented. Quality, cadence and content is core to successful product development at Veritas, which was reiterated by the product team. Keynote presentations were delivered on NetBackup, InfoScale, the Digital Compliance suite of products as well as the newly acquire APTARE business.
Important to Veritas' success is the long-standing strategic partnerships that have been developed over decades. One of those successful partnerships has been with Microsoft, which started in 1996. Jeramiah Dooley from Microsoft presented on the long-standing partnership and how this has developed over the decades with the core focus of customer success.
Another important strategic partnership is the newly formed relationship with Pure Storage. During the event, the team was on hand to answer questions about the relationship and how we work together. Veritas and Pure Storage help multi-cloud enterprises gain agility and speed with integrated snapshot-based protection for scale-out data in Flash Arrays. Using Veritas NetBackup and CloudPoint, customers can lower their Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), and achieve high-performance data protection for their data in Flash Arrays.
After the keynote sessions, attendees selected from over 30 deep dive technical sessions to participate in. Many of the attendees said how valuable they found the sessions and wished they had an extra day for more knowledge sharing.
On the last evening of the Technical Forum, there was an opportunity to continue networking and connecting at a Spanish themed night, which included traditional Flamenco dancing. A fun night was had by all!
The final day of the event saw Pen Hadow, an Explorer and Naturalist deliver a motivational speech to attendees. He spoke about the extremes he had been through, how he managed to be the only solo person to date to have successfully walked to the North Pole, which was an amazing accomplishment. His speech definitely left a mark on the audience and the importance of looking after the environment. So, that concludes the wrap up from the fifth Veritas Technical Forum.
