What Pride means to me: an interview with Veritas’ PAVE leader, Briana Brophy

With Pride month upon us and given Veritas’ emboldened support of this year’s San Francisco celebrations, I wanted to seek the perspective of Senior Program Manager, Briana Brophy, on the company’s support of LGBTQ employees.

Along with Senior Director of Internal Communications, Rick Avila, Briana co-leads the Bay Area’s Pride at Veritas Empowered employee resource group. The mission of Veritas’ PAVE is to foster a diverse and inclusive work space, including efforts to educate the company and community about LGBT issues.

Below, please see highlights from my conversation with Briana, and find additional updates on Veritas’ involvement in this year’s Pride events here, on VOX.

What does the Pride celebration mean to you?

One of the most moving details for me in the Pride celebration is the visibility it provides to the LGBTQ community; the series of events and the awareness they inspire deliver the message, “It’s okay for us to be who we are.” It is so important for people to have this personal sense.

This is particularly affirming for me, being where I am now in my personal journey.

What has been your involvement in inspiring Veritas’ bold support of this year’s Pride events?

I am co-leader of Veritas’ PAVE Bay Area office alongside Rick Avila, and we are working alongside our colleagues to enliven PAVE participation across global offices.

Notably, Veritas’ Heathrow and Roseville teams have traditions of supporting Pride events local to their offices. Really, I want to see stronger coordination across our offices, as the potential is so clear.

Let’s go national!

The Pride Parade is fast-approaching – what has you feeling most excited?

I am really looking forward to getting the company’s name out there, broadly, in support of the LGBTQ community. Veritas has a long-standing history of supporting the self-expression and wellbeing of its employees, and walking in this year’s San Francisco Pride Parade will be just one more demonstration of that company standard.

Also, I love the campaign we are presenting for the events – especially the tagline: “Our name means truth. Our culture lives it. Proud of our employees for over 30 years.”

I am proud to be on #TeamVtas, and proud to be marching alongside my colleagues, family, and friends in the 2018 San Francisco Pride Parade.PAVElogosquare.png
