Today the Enterprise Vault team celebrates the release of 10.0.4 and what a release it is!

10.0.4 is our largest ever Enterprise Vault service pack. It contains more features, fixes and performance and scalability testing cycles than we’ve ever put into a single service pack release before. We have also successfully been running 10.0.4 internally in our production environment since March. If that doesn’t whet your appetite, then let’s take a brief look at what is included in this release:

Enterprise Vault Extensions: A framework that enables Symantec Technology Enabled Program (STEP) partners to develop new archiving applications to extend the set of content sources that can be archived by Enterprise Vault along with the ability to view and manage these Extensions through the Vault Administration Console.

PST migration enhancements:

  • Enhancements to the way that end-users interact with PST migrations including the ability for end-users to see PST files migration status, the ability to authorize the migration of their PST files and even submit additional PST files to be migrated.
  • Enhanced functionality for the Enterprise Vault administrator to search computers that contain PST files more effectively, directly input the known locations of PST files/computers and prioritize PST files for migration in the correct order.

Retention Enhancements:

  • It is now possible to allow Enterprise Vault to automatically expire data from the archive, based on Retention Category, while preventing end-users from manually deleting items in the archive. This setting is configured per Retention Category.
  • Enterprise Vault can now be configured to prevent Retention Category updates when the retention period is decreased. For example, moving a shortcut in a users mailbox may result in a different retention category being assigned to that item but only if the new retention category is equal to or longer than the original. In this case, longest retention period wins.

Indexing Exclusions: Gives the capability to specify email content that you do not want Enterprise Vault to index, such as email disclaimers and corporate email signatures. Excluding known static content can improve the quality of searching and reduce the number of false positive hits in a Discovery review set

EVSVR Check pointing: Check pointing is supported for most EVSVR operations, so, if an operation is stopped or fails for any reason, it will continue from the latest check point instead of having to restart from the beginning.

Retention Category assigned in SharePoint rule: The default retention category can now be overridden within Enterprise Vault for SharePoint rules to allow different retentions based on metadata, content type, and file characteristics. Using this mechanism, content in the same location can now be assigned different retention categories.

Kerberos support for Mac client for Outlook 2011: The Mac client for Outlook 2011 now supports Kerberos authentication for all actions available on the Enterprise Vault client toolbar.

Full support for IBM Domino 9.0

Whole Archive Preservation: Ability to manage and apply legal hold preservations on entire archives.
