You can only connect Storage Shelves provided by Veritas.

I would have said NO.... 

...until recently I saw one that goes with only the appliance base unit, which mean they don't purchase any Appliance storage shelf, and connect to a DataDomain storage. 

That's why you will see this option in CLISH:

Manage -> OpenStorage 

I asked support and obviously, they will only support the base unit which makes sense.
