Is this still a requirement ?

Recently I migrated all of the images from a 5220 master/media appliance to a 5240 master/media appliance - using AIR 'through the back door'.

The process sounded complex at first, but it turned out to be easy.  Worked like a dream.

If you want details let me know.

FIrst upgrade your netbackup to 7.7.3 or 8.0 because 7.6.1 is end of support life. Next target your existing job on the new appliance and you can manually transfer the images from old pool to new pool.

The appliances come with a built-in migration tool called Migration Utility, I would suggest to have a look at it https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.v78528990_v121551700

@Mouse thanks for that link. I was not aware of this utility.

However, I don't think it will work in this instance.

The first problem is that it will only work in the same domain.
So, cannot be used to migrate between 2 different masters.

The utility is also only migrating Veritas disk pools within the same domain.

IMHO, consulting services will be needed to perform master server migration to new platform, as per this TN:

DOCUMENTATION: How to migrate the NetBackup catalog information from one platform to another (UNIX to Windows or vice versa), rename a Master Server, cluster an existing Master Server, or merge multiple NetBackup domains.

@Marianne apologies, completely missed the point that the source is Windows

I guess the way it may work for the OP, you could keep your Master functionality on Windows and just migrate backup images off to the appliance, making it a media server which is the cheapest option and can be done through the aforementioned Migration Utility.

Otherwise, as Marianne correctly pointed out, you need to re-platform NBU which needs consulting engagement fro NBU Catalog manipulation, you may need to reach out to your Veritas account manager to arrange this as it's not free and needs a qualified partner.

Update :

The annoying thing is that these URLs are only valid for 'current' manuals.

The procedure is covered in Veritas NetBackup™ Appliance Administrator's Guide

So, for future versions, please search for the relevant topic.

If your query is non-appliance related, best to start a new discussion.

If you want to migrate from 5220 to 5240 Appliance, please have a look at this article:

With this toolkit, you can migrate the NetBackup configuration, policies, catalogs, and images from a source appliance configured as a master server or master/media server (all-in-one) to a new appliance with the same role with a few steps.
