NetBackup Appliance 5230 as Master Server

Hello there!!

Does anybody know if I can upgrade a NetBackup Appliance 5230 configured as master server from 2.6.1 to 2.7.1? Or if I can have a NetBackup Appliance 5230 configured as master server with version 2.7.1?

I try to find the information in SORT, but I don't realle understand if a 5230 master server can have 2.7.1 or not: "NetBackup 5200 Series Appliances running 2.x or later can be used as back-level media servers in a NetBackup 7.7.x configuration. NetBackup Appliance and NetBackup versions will resynchronize in future releases."

And one more question, does anybody know how can I determine if I need to use a 4 Tb or a 14 Tb master server?

Thanks!!

Yes, you can definitely upgrade a 5230 from 2.6.1 to 2.7.1.  And yes, you can use a 5230 as either a master server or as a master/media server or as a media server.

This guide will help you plan the sizing:

.

The note about 5200 is specific to 5200.  FYI there have been four models of "NetBackup Appliance" 5200, 5220, 5230, 5330.  It is only the 5200 hardware type which cannot be upgraded to v2.7.1.   FYI there were some other "Puredisk Appliances" of 5000 and 5020, but these ran a different product and have been discontinued and are not related to your question in any way.

Yes. You can upgrade a 5230 master server from 2.6.1 to 2.7.1.
We have done it with our in-house 4TB demo Appliance.

Please take your time and go through the Appliance Upgrade Guide http://www.veritas.com/docs/000097625.

Whether you need a 4TB or 14TB Appliance depends entirely on what the master is used for.
Your reseller can help with sizing exercise.

I would add though if it is an option I would go directly to 2.7.3 as this is the latest version.
